Arturo Lemus Beltran (born January 14, 1978) is a Mexican artist who entered the field at the age of 23, with no previous interest or training until he was awarded a scholarship to the Casa Lamm to study. He began exhibiting before his graduation in 2010 and since has had his work shown in Mexico, Canada and the United States as well as sold at auction for charity along with much better known names. He is also involved in a number of Japanese and Israeli civil associations and is a founding member of the Expresión Urbana Popular group, which promote art among young people.

Early life

Arturo Lemus Beltran was born on January 14, 1978, in Chimalhuacán, State of Mexico. He did not grow up with an interest to draw or paint. Instead, he was working as a quality inspector at various factories until he had the opportunity to work at a cultural center in Ixtapaluca. There he began to work on painting and cartonería projects, and his talent earned him a scholarship to the Casa Lamm Cultural Center when he was 23, attending from 2007 to 2010. [1] [2]

He began exhibiting his work before graduating from the Casa Lamm art program, and since then has had numerous individual and collective exhibitions in Mexico with exhibitions outside the country in Canada and the United States. Much of his exhibition work has been in association with Japanese and Israeli civil associations along with the South African embassy in Mexico. [1] [3]

His first exhibition was in 2009 at the Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Chimalhuacán. [2] other exhibitions include an untitled show at Centro Universitario UAEM in Texcoco in 2011, [4] Expo Cultural Africa Ixtapaluca in 2010 [5] and "Paisajes Urbanos de DF" at the Centro Deportivo Israelita. A.C. in 2012. [6] He also participated in a collaborative effort at Garros Galería called "Los Gatos Son del Espacio" in 2011 along with Kenta Torii, Zelet, Jeavi Mental and Odette Paz. [7]

He has participated in various civil and cultural associations dedicated to the promotion of art. This participation included relief efforts for Japanese orphans after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami participating in the "¡Amor a Japón!, Venta de Arte para ayudar a los huérfanos del Sismo-Tsunami de Tohoku" in June 2011 at the Conejoblanco Galería de Libros sponsored by the Fundación Paisaje social AC. [8] He is a founding member of the Expresión Urbana Popular (EXUPO) to promote art among youth. [1] [3]

He has been invited to donate pieces for two major charity auctions in Mexico: Cajas Mágicas with the Fundación Mexicana para la Planeación Familiar (Mexican Foundation for Family Planning) and the Gran Subasta de la Ciudad de México held by the Juan Camilo Mouriño Terrazo Foundation both in 2011. For the first event, his work called “Las Tres Edades” was auctioned alongside those of Pedro Friedeberg and Francisco Castro Leñero. [1] [9] For the latter, he contributed a piece called "El Abuelo," which was sold to the family of Josefina Vázquez Mota. [3]

Luis Enrique Camejo is a Cuban contemporary painter who won several prizes, including the First Place Prize in the V Painting Contest Nicomedes García Gomez in 2003. He lives and works in Havana today.

Casa Lamm

The Casa Lamm Cultural Center is the best known landmark in Colonia Roma. It was a house built in the early 20th century when Colonia Roma was a new neighborhood for the wealthy leaving the historic center of Mexico City. In the 1990s, the house was restored to open as a cultural center in 1994, with the aim of making the area a center for the visual arts. Today, it hosts numerous exhibits as well as offering classes, even degrees, in art and literature.

Garros Galería or Garros Gallery is located in Colonia Roma in Mexico City. It is the only art gallery and museum dedicated to cats in Mexico.

Shino Watabe

Shino Watabe is a Japanese artist who has lived and worked in Mexico permanently since 1990. She has had numerous individual and collective exhibitions in Mexico, more recently working with a group of Mexican and Japanese female artists called Flor de Maguey. In 2008, she partially lost her sight due to illness, but she remains a working artist, continuing to create and exhibit her work.

Marcela Lobo Crenier

Marcela Lobo Crenier, is a Mexican artist from Mexico City whose work is distinguished by the depiction of everyday objects in strong, bright colors, often using color schemes associated with Mexico. She began her career in 1986 in Cancun doing etching, but moved to Mexico City and into painting by 1991. Most of her work is acrylics on canvas but she is also noted for her work with painting ceramics with Uriarte Talavera. She has also done painting on wood, created ceramics, collages and even shoe decoration and has been exhibited both individually and collectively in Mexico, Europe and the United States.

Ignacio Ortiz is a Mexican painter and teacher noted for his depictions of women and his work in the development of the fine arts program at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. He began his career at the same university as a student, with advanced studies in Europe. He has had individual and collective showings of his work in Mexico, the United States and various countries in Europe. He is a member of the Royal Union of Swedish Painters and the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana. In 2005, the Museo Metropolitano de Monterrey gave him an award for his life’s work and contributions to the culture of Monterrey.

Mauricio García Vega

Mauricio García Vega is a Mexican painter whose work has been recognized by various awards and membership in the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana. His work is mostly focus on urban landscapes often with dark themes and a chaotic feel. He works alone and with his brother Antonio García Vega. He lives and works in the Mexico City suburb of Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl.

Jesús Álvarez Amaya was a Mexican painter and graphic artist, mostly known for mural work and his graphic work as head of the Taller de Gráfica Popular, which he led from 1967 until his death. His murals can be found in various parts of the country and his art mostly have social and political themes.

Rina Lazo Guatemalan-Mexican painter

Rina Lazo Wasem was a Guatemalan-Mexican painter, who began her career in mural painting with Diego Rivera as his assistant. She worked with him from 1947 until his death in 1957 on projects both in Mexico and Guatemala. Thereafter she remained an active painter, better known for her mural works than canvases although the latter have been exhibited in Mexico and other countries making her one of Guatemala's better known artists. She was a member of the Mexican muralism movement and while she criticized modern artists as too commercial and not committed to social causes. She believed muralism would revive in Mexico because of its history.

Leonel Maciel is a Mexican artist, member of the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana, from the coast of the state of Guerrero. Although from a rural area and farming family, he studied art at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" and has traveled extensively in Europe and Asia, which has influenced his work. His art has changed styles from generally contains multiple elements and saturated colors.

Nefero was a Mexican painter and founding member of the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana. He was part of the Mexican muralism movement, whose work was particularly influenced by Manuel Rodríguez Lozano.

Sebastián Canovas Ávalos is a Mexican artist known for watercolors, oil paintings and murals. He has exhibited throughout Mexico, in the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Germany and France.

Carmen Parra is a Mexican painter. Her work is inspired in the New Spain iconography art: angels, archangel, eagles, butterflies and flowers.

Luis Marín is a Cuban Neo-expressionist painter and visual artist. He has been active internationally in the arts since the 1980s and is featured in the permanent collections of several prominent fine art institutions including the Museum of Latin American Art and Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale.
