Ashish Goyal is an Indian-born financial professional and disability rights advocate. He is known for being one of the first blind traders to work in global financial markets, including roles at J.P. Morgan, BlueCrest Capital, and Citadel. [1] [2] [3]
In 2010, he received the National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities from the President of India, [4] and in 2015, he was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. [5]
Ashish Goyal was born and raised in Mumbai, India. He developed retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye condition, and lost his sight completely by the age of 19. [6]
He earned a degree in management from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai, where he ranked second in his graduating class and received the 2003 Dun & Bradstreet Best Student Award. [7] He worked at ING Vysya Bank prior to pursuing graduate studies.
In 2006, Goyal enrolled in the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, becoming the first blind student admitted to the MBA program. [8] He was selected by his peers to receive the Joseph Wharton Award and graduated in 2008 with an MBA with honours. [9]
After graduating from Wharton, Goyal joined J.P. Morgan in London as a trader in the global markets division, where he focused on risk management. [1] [2] He later worked as a portfolio manager at macro hedge funds including BlueCrest Capital and Citadel. [10]
In addition to his financial career, Goyal has participated in blind cricket and represented Metro London Sports Club in 2009. [11]
Goyal is a disability inclusion advocate and has spoken at high-profile events including the World Economic Forum in Davos and sessions hosted by the London Stock Exchange.
