Delwar Hossain Sayeedi is an Islamic speaker, lecturer, politician who served as a Member of the Parliament of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2008. He was convicted for committing war crimes during and Bangladesh Liberation War, despite his denial. Ahsan Habib was a Bangladeshi poet and literary figure in Bengali culture. He was born in the village of Shankarpasha, in Pirojpur. Before the India-Pakistan partition, he worked on several literary magazines: Takbir, Bulbul (1937–38) and The Saogat (1939-43) and he was a staff artiste at the Kolkata Centre of All India Radio. After partition he came to Dhaka and worked on Daily Azad, Monthly Mohammadi, Daily Krishak, Daily Ittehad, Weekly Prabaha, etc.

Gabkhan Channel is a canal connecting Pirojpur District of Bangladesh with Jhalakati District. The canal was excavated during the British period in 1918 to connect the Sandha River of Pirojpur district and the Sugandha River of Jhalakati district with a view to reducing the distance on the Dhaka-Mongla and Chittagong-Mongla river routes by about 118 kilometres (73 mi).

Bhimnali massacre

On 22 May 1971 local collaborators attacked the village of Nali in Barisal district of Bangladesh. The Bengali Hindu villagers resisted with spears and shields. However, they were soon overpowered by the collaborators, who shot dead 15 villagers.

Faizur Rahman Ahmed was a police officer and a freedom fighter of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. He was killed by Pakistani military personnel. He received the Independence Day Award from the Government of Bangladesh in 2017.
