Ashok Ramji Wooike is a member of the 13th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He represents the Ralegaon Assembly Constituency. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party. [1] In June, 2015, he was nominated on the state level committee that selects awards to individuals and organisations in the field of tribal welfare. [2] His victory was amongst the five seats won by the BJP, that resulted in the Indian National Congress (INC) not being able to win a single seat in Yavatmal district once its stronghold. [3] In 2009 he had unsuccessfully contested as an independent candidate, losing to Vasant Purke of the Indian National Congress. [4]

The Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha or the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the legislature of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated in the Nariman Point area of South Mumbai in the capital Mumbai. Presently, 288 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected from the single-seat constituencies and one member is nominated. The members of the upper house, the Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad are indirectly elected through an electoral college.

It covers Ralegaon town and taluka and is reserved for a Scheduled Tribe candidate. He is considered as a "protege'" of Gadkari, and the 2014 contest had been considered as a "prestige issue" for Gadkari and Ajit Pawar whose mentee Sandeep Bajoria was pitted against him. He is also a guardian minister of Buldhana district which is located in the Amravati division of Maharashtra India
