Ashyk Aydyn Pir is the patron saint of singers and bards, in Turkmen tradition. [1]

Mausoleum

Aydyn Pir's mausoleum ( 41°52′32″N58°38′06″E / 41.875454°N 58.635048°E / 41.875454; 58.635048 ) is located in the Daşoguz region of Turkmenistan, north of Diyarbekir. It is venerated by thousands of Turkmen, esp. those in pursuance of a career in music; they sleep on its steps, hoping to meet Pir in their dreams. [1] [2]

Kononenko accumulated over 736 days in orbit during his four long duration flights to ISS, that is, the longest time in space of any currently active cosmonaut or astronaut.

Turkmen cuisine, the cuisine of Turkmenistan, is similar to that of the rest of Central Asia. Turkmen seminomadic culture revolved around animal husbandry, especially sheep herding, and accordingly Turkmen cuisine is noted for its focus on meat, particularly mutton and lamb. One source notes,

The nomadic past has left a very noticeable trace in Turkmen cuisine - the basis of the diet is meat: lamb, meat of gazelles, non-working camels, wild fowl, chicken. Beef is consumed much less frequently because this food appeared on the table much later, Turkmens don't eat horse meat at all.

A bagshy is a professional Turkmen bard who devotes his or her life to memorizing and reciting historical epics, typically accompanied by the traditional two-stringed instrument known as the dutar. Bagshys have enjoyed great respect in Turkmen society as guardians of the culture, and since independence in 1991, they have received greater support from the government.
