Assam Hockey, earlier known as Assam Hockey Association, was founded in 1952. SP Barua and JK Barua took the chairs of president and secretary respectively in the inaugural year. Currently its office is situated at Nowgang District Sports Association complex. It is one of the permanent member unit of Hockey India. Present President of Assam Hockey is Keshab Mohanta and the General Secretary is Tapan Kumar Das [1] . The main stadium of hockey in Assam is Maulana Md. Tayabullah Hockey Stadium [2] which is in Guwahati.
The Bihu dance is an indigenous folk dance from the Indian state of Assam related to the Bihu festival and an important part of Assamese culture. Performed in a group, the Bihu dancers are usually young men and women, and the dancing style is characterized by brisk steps and rapid hand movements. Asom Gana Parishad is a political party in the state of Assam, India. The AGP was formed following the historic Assam Accord of 1985 and formally launched at the Golaghat Convention held from 13 to 14 October 1985 in Golaghat, which also allowed Prafulla Kumar Mahanta who was the youngest chief minister of the state to be elected. The AGP has formed government twice once in 1985 then again in 1996. The popularity of AGP surged in the late 1980s but declined in the 2000s. After a 20-year gap, AGP, in alliance with NDA, won a Lok Sabha seat in 2024.

Dev Kant Barooah was an Indian politician from Assam, who served as the 83rd President of the Indian National Congress during the Emergency from 1975 to 1978 and the seventh Governor of Bihar from 1971 to 1973. He also served as union cabinet minister for Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in Second Indira Gandhi ministry from 5 February 1973 to 10 October 1974. He was a member of the 1st Lok Sabha and 6th Lok Sabha. the elder brother of famous assamese poet, Navakanta Barua and the first Assamese person to become the President of the Indian National Congress.
Assamese cinema, also known as Jollywood, is the Indian film industry of Assamese language. It is based in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie Joymoti. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style. In the beginning the industry were called Jollywood, for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.

Abdul Matlib Mazumder (1890–1980) was an Indian freedom fighter and political leader based in undivided Assam State. In 1946, when India was still under British rule, he became an MLA and also Cabinet Minister of Assam. He was one of the prominent Muslim leaders of eastern India to support Hindu-Muslim unity, opposing the partition of India on communal lines. Mazumder along with Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed became the most prominent Muslim opponents of the demand for a separate Muslim state of Pakistan, especially in the eastern part of the country.

Chandradhar Barua was a writer, poet, dramatist and lyricist from Assam of Jonaki Era, the age of romanticism of Assamese literature. Barua was born at Jorhat, Assam on 15 October 1878. He was second president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha in 1918 held at Goalpara. He was the founder secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha Patrika, an official journal of the Asam Sahitya Sabha established at 1927 and held in that position till 1936. He also represented India at the Round Table Conference held at London in 1930.

Satish Chandra Kakati was an Indian journalist, writer, the editor of The Assam Tribune, an Assam based English-language daily, and one of the founders of Assam Bani, a vernacular weekly started in 1955 by The Assam Tribune group. He was the vice president of the Editors' Guild of India and authored seven books in Assamese and English. A 2005 recipient of the Kanaklata Barua and Mukunda Kakati Memorial Award, Kakati was awarded the fourth highest civilian award of the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1991.
Pulin Das was an Indian first-class cricketer. He played two matches for Assam between 1949 and 1952. He was a right-handed batsman. He was a pioneer organizer of sport events and a veteran sport journalist in India. He was also the founding secretary of Assam Cricket Association. He was the last living member of Assam's first Ranji Cricket Team in 1948.

Pulakesh Barua is an Indian politician from the state of Assam. He had formed the Natun Asom Gana Parishad (NAGP), a regional political party in 1991 along with Dinesh Goswami and Bhrigu Kumar Phukan but merged the party with the AGP in 1994. He was the speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly from 9 January 1986 – 27 July 1991.
Atul Chandra Barua was the 46th president of Asam Sahitya Sabha and a prominent name in the modern Assamese literature. He was an ACS officer and an Assamese writer. He worked for the cause of Darrangi culture and was conferred with the title "Darrang Ratna".
Nurul Amin (1919–1991) was a sports administrator. A law graduate, he was president of the All India Football Federation from 1975 to 1980. He had previously been involved with the India national football team, including as manager of their gold medal winning team at the 1962 Asian Games, and many sports organisations in Assam, including as secretary of the Assam Cricket Association from 1948 to 1956, founding president of the Assam Olympic Association, and founding secretary of the Nagaon Sports Association. The Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon, Assam is named in his honour.
Maulana Md. Tayabullah Hockey Stadium is a field hockey stadium in Guwahati, Assam, India. It has a seating capacity of 2,000 people. This stadium served as the hockey venue for the 33rd National Games of India in 2007, 12th South Asian Games in 2016 and the 2020 Khelo India Youth Games. It was built in 2007 before the 33rd National Games.
