Association for Protection of Civil Rights [1] [2] is a non-governmental organization which was established in 2006 for the protection of human rights of the exploited-deprived sections of the society. [3] [4] It is composed of advocate, social activities and grassroots paralegal social workers. [5] [6] [7] [8]

The association is currently working in seventeen states [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19]

Raza Academy is a Sunni Muslim fundamentalist Islamist group based in Maharashtra, India. It was formed in 1978 by Alhaj Mohammed Saeed Noori as a small publishing house, and later became known for protests for the rights of Muslims. The group publishes books of Barelvi scholars in various languages, the Kanzul Iman translation of the Quran, and Fatawa-i Razawiyya. The group also conducts charity and advocacy work for the Muslim community.

The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act is an Indian law aimed at the prevention of unlawful activities associations in India. Its main objective was to make powers available for dealing with activities directed against the integrity and sovereignty of India. The most recent amendment of the law, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act, 2019 has made it possible for the Union Government to designate individuals as terrorists without following any formal judicial process. UAPA is also known as the "Anti-terror law".

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind or Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is one of the leading organizations of Islamic scholars belonging to the Deobandi school of thought in India. It was founded in November 1919 by a group of Muslim scholars including Abdul Bari Firangi Mahali, Kifayatullah Dehlawi, Muhammad Ibrahim Mir Sialkoti and Sanaullah Amritsari.

Mahmood Asad Madani is an Indian Islamic scholar, activist, politician, and president of the Mahmood faction of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind religious organisation. He formerly served as the general secretary of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (JUH), and as member of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) party in the Rajya Sabha in the state of Uttar Pradesh from 2006 to 2012. He is ranked 27th on the list of The 500 Most Influential Muslims.

Umar Khalid is an Indian separatist activist, a former research scholar with leftist idiology at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), former leader of Democratic Students' Union (DSU) in JNU. He was allegedly involved in the JNU sedition row and is an accused under the UAPA law for Delhi riots. Khalid is also associated with United Against Hate, a campaign founded along with Nadeem Khan in July 2017 in response to the series of lynchings.

Safoora Zargar is an Indian student activist leader from Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, best known for her role in the Citizenship Amendment Act protests.

Sharjeel Imam is an Indian student activist from Kako village of Jehanabad, Bihar. He had completed his B.Tech. and M.Tech. from IIT-Bombay and joined Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2013 for completing his master's degree in Modern History and in 2015 he started Ph.D. from the same university. He is known for his allegedly inflammatory speeches made during anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests which led to his arrest under sedition.

Ishrat Jahan is an Indian practising advocate and former municipal councillor for the Indian National Congress in Delhi who is an accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and was granted bail on 14 March 2022 after her incarceration since February 2020.

Asif Iqbal Tanha is an Indian student activist, a former student of Jamia Millia Islamia and a member of Students Islamic Organisation of India. He was allegedly involved in the Delhi Riots conspiracy case and is an accused under the UAPA Act. Tanha is also associated with United Against Hate (UAH), a campaign that was started in July 2017 in response to the series of lynchings and hate crimes in India.

Kaleem Siddiqui is an Indian Islamic scholar, preacher, educationist and a member of Tablighi Jamaat. He was detained by ATS of Up police with accusations of mass conversion which nationalist Hindu considered a threat to their religion, he had been providing both financial and legal assistance to those who faced difficulty to adopt Islam as their consent religion. He is a disciple of Muhammad Zakariyya al-Kandhlawi and Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi. Aapki Amanat Aapki Sewa Mein is one of his popular book.

Hindus for Human Rights is a U.S.-based non-profit advocacy group founded in 2019.

Fahad Shah is an Indian journalist from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. He is the founder and editor of the news magazine The Kashmir Walla. He was a recipient of a Human Rights Press Award in 2021.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nadeem Khan (social activist)</span> Indian Human Rights Activist

Nadeem Khan is a human rights activist in India serving as the National Secretary of Association for Protection of Civil Rights and Founder of UAH, actively contributing to its cause. His activism extends various communal violence incidents across India including the Bihar Communal Violence, Ram Navami Violence, and Kasganj violence of 2018. He also aligned the victims with others for sponsorship.

Irfan Mehraj is an Indian journalist and human rights activist from Kashmir. He works with Deutsche Welle and also writes for various publications like The Indian Express, TRT World, The Wire, The Caravan, Himal Southasian and NewArab. Irfan has specially written about the challenges facing the Muslim community in Kashmir. He was the Editor of Two Circles and the founding editor of Wande Magazine.

Tahir Hussain, known for his role in Citizenship Amendment Act protests, is the former councillor of the Aam Aadmi Party who was elected from Ward 59 in Nehru Vihar, East Delhi.
