The Association of Photographers (AOP), often referred to colloquially as the AOP, is a trade association for British & European professional photographers predominantly, but also has members based globally.
It was formed in London, United Kingdom in 1968 as the Association of Fashion and Advertising Photographers [2] by a small group of photographers (later joined by editorial photographers to become AFAEP). United by a common aim to challenge the then unreasonable demands of model agencies, it brought together professional photographers in order to protect their rights and promote photography.
Constituted as a not-for-profit trade association, today its membership is around 1,000 photographers and assisting photographers. It is also supported by photographers' agents, printers and industry service-providers, as well as manufacturers and suppliers of photographic equipment. The AOP also has 52 affiliated courses at HE and FE level and plays a significant role in promoting, maintaining and developing relationships between all levels of higher and further education and the professional industry.

Since its formation, the principal aims of the AOP have remained the same, and through their campaigning and education work they have improved rights for all photographers. In so doing they created a unique community of professionals. They negotiated the reforms which led to the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, as well as developing the widely accepted AOP standards of practice, which afford photographers greater protection and control of their work; and wrote Beyond the Lens, the definitive guide to rights, ethics and best business practice in professional photography.
The Association publishes a great deal of information of particular interest to all photographers concerned with their intellectual property rights and business practice, such as their Copyright4Clients web pages on the AOP's website.
They also created the AOP Awards, [4] [5] an awards scheme for AOP members, [6] "among the most coveted and influential prizes in the commercial image-making industry". [2] It covers Professional, Assisting Photographer & Student photography. In addition, the AOP runs a competition that is open to all photographers, which attracts professionals and amateurs alike. [7] All the winning images from each of the Awards are published in a corresponding book and all images are exhibited at a prominent London venue after the winners have been announced.

Photojournalism is journalism that uses images to tell a news story. It usually only refers to still images, but can also refer to video used in broadcast journalism. Photojournalism is distinguished from other close branches of photography by having a rigid ethical framework which demands an honest but impartial approach that tells a story in strictly journalistic terms. Photojournalists contribute to the news media, and help communities connect with one other. They must be well-informed and knowledgeable, and are able to deliver news in a creative manner that is both informative and entertaining.
Steve McCurry is an American photographer, freelancer, and photojournalist. His photo Afghan Girl, of a girl with piercing green eyes, has appeared on the cover of National Geographic several times. McCurry has photographed many assignments for National Geographic and has been a member of Magnum Photos since 1986.
Secret photography is the use of an image or video recording device to photograph or film a person who is unaware that they are being intentionally photographed or filmed. It is sometimes called covert photography.
Wedding photography is a specialty in photography that is primarily focused on the photography of events and activities relating to weddings. It may include other types of portrait photography of the couple before the official wedding day, such as a pre-wedding engagement session. On the wedding day, the photographer(s) will provide portrait photography as well as documentary photography to document the different wedding events and rituals throughout the wedding day(s).
The American Society of Media Photographers, abbreviated ASMP, is a professional association of imaging professionals, including photojournalists, architectural, underwater, food/culinary and advertising photographers as well as video/film makers and other specialists. Its members are primarily those who create images for publications, though many cross over into wedding and portrait photography.
Nature photography is a wide range of photography taken outdoors and devoted to displaying natural elements such as landscapes, wildlife, plants, and close-ups of natural scenes and textures. Originally based in London, Digital Photography Review and most of its team relocated to Seattle, Washington, in 2010. It was owned by Amazon from 2007 to 2023.

Architectural photography is the sub genre of the photography discipline where the primary emphasis is made to capturing photographs of buildings and similar architectural structures that are both aesthetically pleasing and accurate in terms of representations of their subjects. These are retrospectively organised according to common visual characteristics into series which highlight certain themes: the nature of time and memory, climate change, colour theory and being. Jo-Anne McArthur is a Canadian photojournalist, humane educator, animal rights activist and author. She is known for her We Animals project, a photography project documenting human relationships with animals. Through the We Animals Humane Education program, McArthur offers presentations about human relationships with animals in educational and other environments, and through the We Animals Archive, she provides photographs and other media for those working to help animals. We Animals Media, meanwhile, is a media agency focused on human/animal relationships.

Photography in Sudan refers to both historical as well as to contemporary photographs taken in the cultural history of today's Republic of the Sudan. This includes the former territory of present-day South Sudan, as well as what was once Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, and some of the oldest photographs from the 1860s, taken during the Turkish-Egyptian rule (Turkiyya).
