Assumption Suksa School (AS) is the first school affiliated with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bangkok. It is a private school for girls located in Bangkok, Thailand. Assumption Suksa School was founded by Pastor Leo Perudong. This school provides general education for students from kindergarten 1 to grade 12 including kindergarten, primary school, secondary school, and high school education.

History

The history of Assumption Suksa School [1] date back to the year 1933 when Pastor Leo Perudong was the rector of Assumption Cathedral. He built Assumption Suksa School which was known as Assumption Cathedral School. At that time, the children of the saints in Assumption Cathedral would attend this school by enrolling in the name of Assumption Convent School; mean that these children were in responsible of Assumption Convent School. There were just 65 children attend at the first time. The number of children continually increased, until the total number of students who were in responsible of Assumption Convent School was 1,757 students: 848 students were Assumption Convent School’s, but the other 909 students were Assumption Cathedral School’s. This number of students was large enough to build another school. So, Pastor Leo Perudong separated these schools, and named the separated school as “Assumption Suksa School”. Therefore, Assumption Suksa School was completely founded in 1953.

Assumption Suksa School continually improved since it was completely founded in 1953. It changed from being a coeducation school to a private school for girls. It provides many educational levels for students: kindergarten, primary school, secondary school, and high school education.

Assumption Cathedral, Bangkok

The Assumption Cathedral is the principal Roman Catholic church of Thailand, located at 23 Oriental Avenue, New Road, in the Bang Rak District of Bangkok. It is the main church of the Archdiocese of Bangkok. It was visited by Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis during their trips to Thailand in 1984 and 2019.

Charoen Krung Road

Charoen Krung Road is a major road in Bangkok and the first in Thailand to be built using modern construction methods. Built during 1862–1864 in the reign of King Mongkut, it runs from the old city centre in Rattanakosin Island, passes through Bangkok's Chinatown, continues into Bang Rak District, where it formerly served the community of European expatriates, and ends in Bang Kho Laem. Construction of the road marked a major change in Bangkok's urban development, with the major mode of transport shifting from water to land. Assumption Convent School (ASC) is a private girls' school in Thailand. It was founded in 1904 by the Roman Catholic Mission of Siam, and has since been managed by the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres. The school is located in the vicinity of the Assumption Cathedral in Bangkok's Bang Rak District.

East Asiatic Building

The East Asiatic Building is a historic building in Bangkok's Bang Rak District. It sits on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River, opposite the Oriental Hotel on Soi Charoen Krung 40 and adjacent to the Catholic Mission and Assumption Cathedral. The building was built c. 1900 in Renaissance Revival style to designs by Annibale Rigotti, and served as the headquarters of the East Asiatic Company (Thailand) until 1995. The building is well-conserved, and received the ASA Architectural Conservation Award in 1984. Nowadays, it is used as a commercial event space, administrated by Charoenkrung Studio, and is often rented as a filming location. The building is generally closed to the public, but was opened to visitors in November 2018 when it was one of the venues for the Bangkok Art Biennale.

Sarasas Witaed Suksa School

Sarasas Witaed Suksa School is a private school in Thailand. It is the 12th school in the Sarasas-affiliated school group. It was founded by Mr. Piboon and Mrs. Pen Sri Yongkamol. It was initially built on an area of 5 rai 48 square wa. Construction began in October 1996 and was completed in May 1997. At first, it was just a 72-meter-long school building, then 6 floors were added in 1999. The area was extended to 8 rai 378 square wah for the construction of a Swimming pool. Indoor parking, a canteen and the second school building were built later in 2006. The school has expanded the area in front of the first building as a pond to construct: the third building, a football field and an outdoor car park, to meet the growing number of students and staff. Currently, the school has a total area of 13 rai 1 ngan 26 square meters

Bang Rak Subdistrict

Bang Rak is a khwaeng (subdistrict) and historic neighbourhood in Bangkok's Bang Rak District. It lies between the Chao Phraya River and Charoen Krung Road, and was home to communities of European expatriates who settled in the area mostly during the second half of the 19th century as Siam opened up to the West. Among them were the Portuguese, French and British, whose embassies occupied extensive grounds in the area, Danes who founded shipping companies as well as the historic Oriental Hotel, and Catholic missionaries who established some of the first schools in the country on the grounds surrounding Assumption Cathedral.
