The Women's marathon T52-53 was a marathon event in athletics at the 1996 Summer Paralympics, for wheelchair athletes. It was the only women's marathon at this games. The host country, the USA won gold courtesy of Jean Driscoll. Of the eighteen starters, thirteen reached the finish line. [1]

Ghana at the Paralympics

Ghana made its Paralympic Games début at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, sending three representatives to compete in two sports. Nkegbe Botsyo, in athletics, took part in the men's 100m, 200m and 400m, in the T54 category. Ajara Mohammed entered the women's 800m and the marathon, also in the T54 category. Alfred Adjetey Sowah competed in powerlifting, in the men's up to 52 kg.

El Salvador at the Paralympics

El Salvador first competed in the Paralympic Games at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia. It has participated in the Summer Paralympic Games every four years since that time. El Salvador has never taken part in the Winter Paralympics, and no Salvadorian has ever won a Paralympic medal.

Marathon events have been held at the Summer Paralympic Games, for both men and women, since the 1984 Summer Paralympics in Stoke Mandeville and New York City. They are held as part of the Paralympic athletics programme.

The women's marathon T54 was a marathon event in athletics at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, for wheelchair athletes. It was the only marathon event held for women. Wheelchair athletes with a disability level more severe than T54 were permitted to compete in the T54 marathon. Ten athletes, from seven countries, took part; defending champion Kazu Hatanaka of Japan was not among them.

2011 IPC Athletics World Championships

The 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships was held in Christchurch, New Zealand from January 21 to 30, 2011. Athletes with a disability competed, and the Championships was a qualifying event for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Madison de Rozario Australian Paralympic athlete

Gregory Stephen "Greg" Smith, OAM is an Australian Paralympic athlete and wheelchair rugby player who won three gold medals in athletics at the 2000 Summer Paralympics, and a gold medal in wheelchair rugby at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, where he was the flag bearer at the opening ceremony.

Singapore at the 1996 Summer Paralympics

Singapore competed at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, United States. Three competitors from Singapore competed in a total of two sports, and did not place in the medal table.

The athletics competitions at the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin took place between 26 June and 29 June at the Nevin Yanıt Athletics Complex while half marathons were held at the Adnan Menderes Boulevard.

2013 IPC Athletics World Championships

The 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships was the biggest track and field competition for athletes with a disability since the 2012 Summer Paralympics. It was held in Lyon, France and lasted from 20 to 28 July. Around 1,100 athletes competed, from 94 different countries. The event was held in the Stade du Rhône located at the Parc de Parilly in Vénissieux, in Lyon Metropolis.

The Men's marathon T52-53 was a marathon event in athletics at the 1996 Summer Paralympics, for wheelchair athletes. Franz Nietlispach and Heinz Frei finished in gold and bronze medal positions respectively for Switzerland, ensuring that Nietlispach won his first marathon title and also setting a Personal Record. Of the sixty-three starters, fifty-six reached the finish line.

The women's marathon athletics events for the 2016 Summer Paralympics took place in the streets of Rio de Janeiro on the 18 September. A total of two events were contested over this distance for three different disability classifications.

Athletics at the 2020 Summer Paralympics will be held at the Tokyo National Stadium between 25 August and 6 September.

Switzerland at the 2020 Summer Paralympics

Switzerland will be competing at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, from 25 August to 6 September 2020.
