Atkinson and McLay was an architectural partnership in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It produced a number of significant works and is the origins of one of Brisbane's major architectural firms in the present day.

History

The partnership between Henry Wallace Atkinson and Charles McLay was established in 1907. The practice subsequently assumed the position of Diocesan Architect to the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane, designing a number of schools and churches in South East Queensland. [1] The partnership lasted until McLay's death in 1918. [2] However, the firm continued to remain prominent in Queensland, evolving into the present day firm of Conrad Gargett.

Charles McLay was a Scottish-born architect in Queensland, Australia. Some of his works are now heritage-listed.

The Anglican Diocese of Brisbane is based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The diocesan bishop's seat is St John's Cathedral, Brisbane. The current Archbishop of Brisbane is Phillip Aspinall, who was formerly the Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia.

Ithaca Town Council Chambers

The Ithaca Town Council Chambers is a heritage-listed former town hall of the former local government area of the Town of Ithaca, and now a community centre in Paddington, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Located at 99 Enoggera Terrace, Red Hill, it was designed by Atkinson and McLay and built in 1910 by Charles Thomas Hall and Francis Joseph Mayer. It is also known as Ithaca Library and Red Hill Kindergarten. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 24 March 2000.

Hall and Prentice was an architectural firm established in 1919 in Brisbane, Australia, through the partnership of Thomas Ramsay Hall and George Gray Prentice. Shepherd Memorial Church of St Peter is a heritage-listed Anglican church at the corner of Drake Street and Wondai Road, Proston, South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Fowell, McConnel and Mansfield and built from 1937 to 1939 by Lesleigh George Windmell Smith. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 9 November 2012.
