Atmaram Govind Kher was an Indian politician, who served as a speaker of the 1st Uttar Pradesh Assembly, 2nd Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and 5th Uttar Pradesh Assembly. [1] [2] He is three times speaker in the assembly [3] [4] .

Personal life

He was born in 25 September 1894 in Gursarai, Jhansi and married Shantabai Kher in 9 June 1916. [5] In 4 January 1982, he died. [6]

The Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is the presiding officer of the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh, the main law-making body for the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The Speaker is elected in the very first meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly after the general elections for a term of 5 years from amongst the members of the assembly. Speakers hold office until ceasing to be a member of the assembly or resigning from the office. The Speaker can be removed from office by a resolution passed in the assembly by an effective majority of its members. In the absence of Speaker, the meeting of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is presided by the Deputy Speaker.

The Legislative Assembly for the United Provinces was constituted for the first time on 1 April 1937 in accordance with the Government of India Act, 1935 with a strength of 228. The size of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was decided as 403 members after the Uttar Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2000. There is one nominated Anglo-Indian member in addition to 403 members. The first session of the provisional Uttar Pradesh Legislature under the new Constitution of India that established the country as a republic began on 2 February 1950. After the first elections the newly elected Assembly of Uttar Pradesh met on 19 May 1952.

Govind Singh Negi was an Indian politician and leader of Communist Party of India (CPI). He was elected as a member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Tehri in 1969, 1974 and 1977.
