Upon finding that Haji Saman was living in Membakut and that he was involved in the plotting that caused Hashim's death, HEICS Phlegethon and HMS Iris departed there in a mission to avenge said Hashim. [1]
The Royal Navy besieged Haji Saman's house with about forty war prahus, from the different rivers in the vicinity, with a force of 500 men, armed with thirty brass swivel guns, joined the forces of the Royal Navy, the principal chieftains being Pengiran Madoud of Mangatal, and the orang-kayas of Kimanis, Papar, and Kallas. [2]
They destroyed Haji Saman's house but Haji Saman was nowhere to be found, escaping. [1]
