Aubrey W. Sekhabi is a South African playwright, director, and artistic director of the South African State Theatre. He has made significant contributions to the theater industry and has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. [1] [2] [3]

Early and personal life

Aubrey's passion for the arts began at a young age. He was born and raised in South Africa and developed a love for theater and storytelling. He pursued his education at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1988. At 15, he penned his first play [4] and by 2002, he became the artistic director at the South African State Theatre (SAST). [5] [6] Aubrey's daughter is Shalate Sekhabi, an actress and a singer. [7] [8]

Controversy

Employees accused Aubrey of corruption, verbal and sexual harassment and unjust dismissals. [9] An anonymous letter was sent to the Department of Arts and Culture seeking intervention. Aubrey denied the accusations, dismissing them as a smear campaign. [10]

Zonke Dikana, known simply as Zonke, is a South African singer-songwriter and record producer. Her rise to stardom came in 2011 following the release of her third album, Ina Ethe, which was certified double platinum and was nominated at the 18th South African Music Awards. In 2013, she recorded and released Give and Take Live, which was certified gold just two months after its release and earned her a place in the Channel O list of "Africa's Top 10 Female Singing Sensations". In September 2015, Zonke released Work of Heart, her fifth album, to critical acclaim with nominations in several categories at the 15th Metro FM Music Awards and 22nd South African Music Awards. She signed a record deal to Sony Music Entertainment in 2013. On 15 June 2018, she released L.O.V.E, her fifth studio album, with Sony.

The Naledi Theatre Awards are annual South African national theatre awards held in Gauteng launched in 2004 by Dawn Lindberg after the Vita Awards ended. Productions staged throughout the previous year are eligible, and the candidates are evaluated by the Naledi panel of judges.

Nomfundo Ngcobo, known professionally as Nomfundoh Moh is a South African singer. Born and raised in Ndwendwe, KwaZulu-Natal, her career began at the age of 16 in 2016. Moh first gained recognition after releasing "Lilizela" in 2021, which received platinum certification in South Africa.

Yogin Rajoo Sullaphen is a South African composer, music producer, live-looper and multi-instrumentalist. He is a member of the musical duo uKhoiKhoi, where his live-looping practices are a feature of their stage performances. Sullaphen is also known for composing and performing as part of theatre productions and performance art projects, which has earned him two nominations for Naledi Theatre Awards, which recognize excellence in South African theatre.
