The Aufbaugymnasium ("Structured Secondary School") is a school for mature students in Germany and Austria. It serves students who graduated from a Hauptschule or Realschule and are headed for the Abitur. It is not to be confused with a traditional Gymnasium, which serves young students who have not graduated from another secondary school before.

Tertiary education, also referred to as third-level, third-stage or post-secondary education, is the educational level following the completion of secondary education. The World Bank, for example, defines tertiary education as including universities as well as trade schools and colleges. Higher education is taken to include undergraduate and postgraduate education, while vocational education beyond secondary education is known as further education in the United Kingdom, or included under the category of continuing education in the United States.

Gymnasium is a term in various European languages for a secondary school that prepares students for higher education at a university. It is comparable to the US English term preparatory high school. Before the 20th century, the gymnasium system was a widespread feature of educational systems throughout many European countries.

Boylen Secondary School was a Toronto District School Board secondary school facility located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada operated as a high school from 1966 to 2016. Opened by the former North York Board of Education in 1966, the school was part of the Toronto District School Board as a very small school, yet the student body is known to be one of the most multicultural in Toronto, with students representing countries from all around the world. The school ceased to exist as an operating school on June 30, 2016 and as of 2023, the school building remains vacant. The motto was "Veritas et Virtus".
