The Augusta Symphony Orchestra, established shortly after World War I, is a nonprofit symphony orchestra in Augusta, Maine. [1] It consists of fifty volunteer amateur and semi-professional musicians and is conducted by Jinwook Park. The orchestra's season includes concerts in spring and fall. [2]

The Augusta Symphony was founded in 1954. The orchestra has grown from a small group of 15 musicians to a full symphony orchestra offering three concert series each season as well as an education and outreach program. The symphony was first under the baton of Harry Jacobs and then Dr. Donald Portnoy. The next Music Director and Conductor was Shizuo Z Kuwahara. During his tenure, the orchestra for a while was called Symphony Orchestra Augusta. The current director is German-born Dirk O. Meyer.

Veronika Borisovna Dudarova was a Soviet and Russian conductor, the first woman to succeed as conductor of symphony orchestras in the 20th century. She became a conductor of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra in 1947, and led this and other orchestras for sixty years. In 1991, she founded the Symphony Orchestra of Russia.

The Bangor Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest continually-operating community orchestras in the United States. Based in Bangor, Maine, it was founded in 1896 by Abbie N. Garland and Horace M. Pullen, its first director. The present organization was incorporated in 1918.

<i>Final Symphony</i> Concert tour of music from the Final Fantasy video game series

Final Symphony is a symphonic concert tour first held at the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal in Wuppertal (Germany) on May 11, 2013. Between then and 2018 it included 22 performances worldwide. The concert tour features arrangements of video game music selected from the Final Fantasy series, specifically Final Fantasy VI, VII, and X. It is divided into three acts: a symphonic poem for VI, a piano concerto for X, and a symphony for VII. The concert is produced and directed by Thomas Böcker, with arrangements provided by Finnish composer and musician Jonne Valtonen, along with Roger Wanamo and Final Fantasy X composer Masashi Hamauzu with consultation from Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu. The original works were composed by Uematsu and Hamauzu, and an introductory piece was composed by Valtonen. The premiere concert was performed by the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra under conduction from Eckehard Stier, with guest performer Benyamin Nuss joining the orchestra on piano.
