Augustine Kortu (born in Kailahun, Kailahun District, Sierra Leone) is a Sierra Leonean politician. He was Kailahun District Council chairman and mayor of Kailahun until July 2008. [1] [2] He is from the Kissi ethnic group.

John Oponjo Benjamin is a Sierra Leonean economist and politician of Mende descent. He was the leader of the main opposition Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) to 2013. He served as Minister of Finance of Sierra Leone from 2002 to 2007. During that period, Benjamin helped lead Sierra Leone through the Paris Club's 100% debt cancellation program. Benjamin was the chairman of the Council of State Secretaries in 1992.

Kai Londo (1845–1896) was a Kissi warrior from Sierra Leone who conquered a large territory. He built new roads and fortified towns and established a new capital at Kailahun.

Education in Sierra Leone

Education in Sierra Leone is legally required for all children for six years at primary level and three years in junior secondary education, but a shortage of schools and teachers has made implementation impossible. The Sierra Leone Civil War resulted in the destruction of 1,270 primary schools and in 2001 67 percent of all school-age children were out of school. The situation has improved considerably since then with primary school enrollment doubling between 2001 and 2005 and the reconstruction of many schools since the end of the war. However, there is still a long ways to go. In 2004, Junior secondary school enrollment was only 17% of primary school enrollment, and senior secondary school enrollment was only 8% of primary school education.

Robin Faley is a Sierra Leonean politician and an outgoing member of Parliament of Sierra Leone from Kailahun District, representing Constituency 7, which is made up of the town of Segbwema and its surrounding areas. He is a member of the All People's Congress (APC); and a former member of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP)

Bu-Buakei Jabbi is a Sierra Leonean lawyer and politician from the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP). He is an elected member of Parliament of Sierra Leone for Constituency 8 in Kailahun District. He is the senior attorney for the SLPP.
