Early life and education

Austin Shaw spent much of his youth in Dayton, Ohio, though he lived briefly in California as a child. [2] During a cross-country move, his mother traveled with only three cassette tapes (James Taylor, Paul Simon, Neil Diamond), which exposed him early to singer-songwriter traditions. [3]

He attended college in upstate New York, where he studied English literature. [2]

Career

Finance to Coaching

Shaw began his career in high finance in New York, holding roles at firms including Merrill Lynch and UBS, and was among early employees at Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG). [4] Over time, he became disillusioned with the intensity and demands of that lifestyle. Sixteen years ago, during a summer visit to his sister in San Francisco, he decided to quit his job and eventually relocated to Santa Cruz. [3]

He later launched Apex Executive Coaching, a firm that provides leadership and career coaching services to senior professionals in sectors like private equity, hedge funds, venture capital, real estate, and technology. [5]

Music and Songwriting

Shaw's debut EP is Love on Both Sides, and was produced by Robert Smith (Defy Records), and features guitarist Robert Saltzman (Paul Simon), drummer Joe Bonadio (Sting), bassist Malcolm Gold and vocalist Clara Lofaro. Austin Shaw's sophomore EP is titled "Felt". [6] It contains songs featured on his full-length album by the same name. [7] [8]

Shaw was voted "Best Local Musician" in 2016 by Good Times (newspaper) in Santa Cruz. [9]

Shaw toured with musician David Bromberg in early 2017. [10]
