The Australian FX-Superbike Championship is a professional motorcycle road-racing series in Australia. Organised by Australian Road and Track Rider Promotions, the championship is run for Superbike-class motorcycles and was first held in 2009. It originated as the Formula Xtreme Tri-State Series, a breakaway competition from the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK). The inaugural 2009 season consisted of three events, before expanding to five rounds in 2010 under the rebranded Australian FX-Superbike name and six rounds in 2011.
Merger talks with Motorcycling Australia in 2011 did not proceed. [1] YMF Loan, the financial arm of Yamaha Motor Finance, sponsored the series between 2010 and 2013.
At the end of the 2013 season, a one-off non-championship event was held at Sydney Motorsport Park under the name Australasian Superbike Championship, reviving a title previously used in domestic motorcycle racing. The 2014 season adopted this name officially, with sponsorship from Swann Insurance, and sought to attract competitors from New Zealand and across Asia. During this period, the ASBK and FX series operated as rival national championships.
Kevin Curtain dominated the early years, winning three consecutive titles (2010–2012) for the Australian Yamaha Racing Team, before teammate Broc Parkes claimed the 2013 championship.
In 2017, the series reverted to its earlier title, the Australian FX-Superbike Championship, after dropping the “Australasian” branding. Since 2018, the series has not held further championship rounds, with many participating riders and teams transitioning to the Australian Superbike Championship.
Although the FX-Superbike Championship has remained inactive since 2018, the broader Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) continues to host the nation’s premier Superbike competition.
