In the arts and in literature, the term avant-garde identifies an experimental genre, or work of art, and the artist who created it; which usually is aesthetically innovative, whilst initially being ideologically unacceptable to the artistic establishment of the time. The military metaphor of an advance guard identifies the artists and writers whose innovations in style, form, and subject-matter challenge the artistic and aesthetic validity of the established forms of art and the literary traditions of their time; thus, the artists who created the anti-novel and Surrealism were ahead of their times.

The C209/A209 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class is the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class range of grand tourers, produced between 2001 and 2009. There were two body styles available: a 2-door coupé (C209) and a 2-door convertible (A209). The latter being assembled at the Karmann plant in Osnabrück. It was also the last complete car made by Karmann before closing the facility.

Solefald is a Norwegian avant-garde metal/black metal band that was formed by members Lars Are "Lazare" Nedland and Cornelius Jakhelln in August 1995, with Nedland singing and playing keyboard/synthesizer/piano and drums, and Jakhelln singing and playing guitar and bass. The duo experiment with a wide array of musical styles, frequently work on other projects, and rarely perform live under the Solefald name, leading them to describe themselves as "two stubborn goats pretending to be a band." According to the duo, their name is an Old Norse word for "sunset," taken from one of Theodor Kittelsen's paintings illustrating a poem of the same name by Theodor Caspari, published in the 1901 book Vintereventyr.

Spain participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the song "Brujería" written by Alfredo Panebianco. The song was performed by the group Son de Sol. The Spanish broadcaster Televisión Española (TVE) organised the national final Eurovisión 2005: Elige nuestra canción in order to select the Spanish entry for the 2005 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. The national final consisted of a semi-final and a final and involved twelve artists and songs. Six entries ultimately qualified to compete in the televised final where a public televote exclusively selected "Brujería" performed by Son de Sol as the winner, receiving 24.2% of the votes.
Nortt is a Danish funeral doom metal project maintained by a musician who goes by an eponymous pseudonym. The project was founded in 1995 and the sole member describes his music as "pure depressive black funeral doom metal". In terms of lyrics and imagery he is akin to other black metal acts, while the sound of his music is closer to doom metal.
