The Avon Futures Championships [1] was a Women's Tennis Association/USTA affiliated tournament founded in 1976 as the Futures Championship. [2] They were the seasonal Avon Futures Circuit finales that were held in Hilton Head, South Carolina from 1976 to 1977, then Atlanta, Georgia from 1978 to 1979, then Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from 1980 to 1981, then Austin, Texas in 1982 when they were discontinued. The Avon International Marathon was an annual women's marathon event that was held at various locations from 1978 to 1984. Sponsored and organised by Avon Products, a beauty and household goods company, it was the longest distance race within the Avon International Women's Running Circuit, which was created with the aim of promoting elite and grassroots road running for women. The circuit was headed by former runner Kathrine Switzer, whose efforts had led to the formal acceptance of women at the Boston Marathon.
The Avon Futures Circuit was a women's professional tennis tour administered by the Women's Tennis Association that was founded in 1976 as the Pro Futures Circuit, and was mainly operated in Canada and the United States. It was initially a subsidiary tour of the Virginia Slims Circuit. In 1979 it became a subsidiary tour of the Avon Championships Circuit. The tour ran alongside the main circuits as a qualifying competition for those tours, and provided a bridge on a promotion or relegation basis. There were between nine and eleven events in any particular season that culminated in an end of season finale called the Avon Futures Championships. The circuit ended in 1982 and was replaced by a smaller Ginny Circuit.
The Avon Futures of Atlana was a USTA/Women's Tennis Association affiliated tournament founded in 1977 as the Futures of Atlanta. The event was part of the Pro Futures Circuit then later Avon Futures Circuit. The tournament was held for two more editions in 1979 and 1980 then was discontinued.
