The company AYAX S.A., founded in 1945, which initially imported various laboratory products as well as textile and paper machines in addition to vehicles from the Opel and Chevrolet brands, was taken over 100% by its managing director Emilio J. Curcio in 1962. [1] General Motors' agency was abandoned in 1968 in favor of the Fiat and Toyota brands. [1] While the representation and assembly of Fiat vehicles was given up again, the production of Toyota vehicles was continued.
The assembly activity ended in the 1990s. [2] The subsidiary Lucca Design, founded in 2004, works as a supplier for Toyota Argentina. [2] [3]
The Hilux model was assembled from 1971, while the Corolla and other Hilux versions (pick-up and double cabin) were added from 1985. [1] [4]
SEAT S.A. is a Spanish car manufacturer, which sells its vehicles under the SEAT and Cupra brands. It was founded on 9 May 1950, by the Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI), a Spanish state-owned industrial holding company. It quickly became the largest supplier of cars in Spain. In 1986, after 36 years being publicly listed as an independent automaker, the Spanish government sold SEAT to the Volkswagen Group of which it remains a wholly owned subsidiary.
Pyeonghwa Motors, a Korean language word for "peace", also spelled Pyonghwa, is one of the two car manufacturers and dealers in the North Korean automotive industry. Until 2013, it was a joint venture in Nampo between Pyonghwa Motors of Seoul, a company owned by Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, and the North Korean Ryonbong General Corp. Sevel Argentina was an automobile company that produced and marketed Fiat, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Chevrolet, and Citroën automobiles for the Argentine market until it was dissolved in 1999. The company was created by merging Fiat's and Peugeot's Argentine operations.
The Hino Briska was a small pickup truck built by Hino Motors, adapted from the Renault-based Hino Contessa sedan. It was first introduced in 1961 and remained in production until 1968, when Toyota released the Toyota Hilux. In 1967, the Hino Briska was renamed the Toyota Briska, then the Hilux was introduced, based on the Briska. There was also a commercial delivery van, appropriately called the Hino Commerce.
Automotive industry in Vietnam is a fast growing sector, mainly reliant on domestic sales. All currently produced models are designed abroad by foreign brands, and many rely on knock-down kit production. Due to high import taxes on automobiles, the Vietnamese government protects domestic manufacturing. Although Vietnam is a member of the ASEAN Free Trade Area, automobile imports fall under an exception. Since January 1, 2018, the 30% import tax has been discontinued as part of ASEAN agreements. Currently, the Vietnamese motor industry is not deemed competitive enough to make exports feasible. As of April 2018, 85% of car sales in Vietnam were produced domestically from CKD kits.
