Azuay Department was created with the 1824 reform of the subdivisions of Gran Colombia.

El Oro is the southernmost of Ecuador's coastal provinces. It was named for its historically important gold production. Today it is one of the world's major exporters of bananas. The capital is Machala.

It covers 851.2 km2 at an altitude of about 1,932 m. The total population is 26,042, and the capital city of the canton is Cariamanga.
Catamayo Canton is a canton of Loja Province in Ecuador. Its seat is Catamayo. It is located in the north of the province, bordered by the cantons of Loja, Gonzanamá, Olmedo, and Chaguarpamba. In it is located the largest and most fertile valley of the province, and is the location of the Monterrey Sugar Cane Processing Plant, a major sugarcane operation which is a financial boon to the province and country. The town of La Toma in Catamayo is the seat of the city of Loja's airport.
Celica is a canton in Loja Province, Ecuador. Its seat is Celica. The canton is located in the west of the province and is bordered by the cantons of Puyango and Paltas in the north, Sozoranga in the east, Macará in the south, and Pindal and Zapotillo in the west. It covers 521.9 km2 at an altitude of 2,500 m.
Gonzanamá is a canton in the Province of Loja, Ecuador. It is located in the south-east of the province, bordered by the cantons of Catamayo, Loja, Quilanga, Calvas, and Paltas. It is the "agricultural, farming, and craftsmanship capital of Loja." Gonzanamá Canton covers 681.9 km2 at an altitude of 2,045 m, with a population of 12,247. The principal town is Gonzanamá.
Gualaceo Canton, nicknamed “El Jardin del Azuay”, is a canton in the sierra region of Ecuador in the Azuay Province. The seat of the canton Gualaceo, is located 35 km east from the city of Cuenca and is one of the biggest cities in Azuay.
The Jaén Province is one of the thirteen provinces in the Cajamarca Region of Peru. Geographically, the province has a mountainous terrain crisscrossed by the rivers of the Huancabamba-Chamaya Basin, which drain towards the Marañón River. Its weather is characterized by high temperatures all year long and heavy rains from October through March. Agriculture and husbandry absorb over half of the province workforce; rice and coffee are main crops.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cuenca is an archdiocese located in the city of Cuenca in Ecuador. Erected as the Diocese of Cuenca from territory of the Diocese of Quito on 1 July 1786, it was elevated to archdiocese status on 9 April 1957.
Pimpingos District is one of fifteen districts of the Cutervo Province in the Cajamarca Region in Peru. It was created on 22 October 1910 by Law No. 1296. It is one of the oldest districts of the province.

Juan de Salinas y Loyola was a Spanish discoverer, conqueror and hidalgo belonging to the Alava branch of the House Hoñaz y Loyola of Azpeitia. He was the governor of Yaguarzongo and Bracamoros and the adelantado of these provinces between 1571 and 1578.
