B.R.A.K.E.S., an acronym for "Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe", is a teen-driving safety organization in the United States founded in 2008 by NHRA Top Fuel driver Doug Herbert following the death of his two sons, Jon and James, in an automobile accident. [1] The organization's stated goal is "to prevent injuries and save lives by training and educating teenage drivers and their parents about the importance of safe and responsible driving." [2]

The organization holds nonprofit status in the United States under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Retired NASCAR driver Ricky Rudd is a spokesman for the group, along with Herbert. Other notable members of the organization include NHRA pro-stock motorcycle driver Steve Johnson, veteran NASCAR crew chief Barry Dodson (who also lost two children in a 1994 auto accident), automotive journalist Tom Cotter, TV executive Patti Wheeler, and former President at the Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway Wanda Miller.

On December 8, 2010, Herbert was nominated for the inaugural 2010 United Nations NGO Positive Peace Awards, in the Professional Sports Team and Professional Athlete categories, for his advocacy of B.R.A.K.E.S. [3]

The speedway was built in 1959 by Bruton Smith and is considered the home track for NASCAR with many race teams located in the Charlotte area. The track is owned and operated by Speedway Motorsports with Greg Walter as track president.

Wendell Oliver Scott was an American stock car racing driver. He was one of the first African-American drivers in NASCAR and the first African-American to win a race in the Grand National Series, NASCAR's highest level.

RFK Racing NASCAR racing team

Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing, doing business as RFK Racing, is an American professional stock car organization that currently competes in the NASCAR Cup Series. One of NASCAR's largest racing teams in the 2000s and early 2010s, Roush formerly ran teams in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, ARCA Racing Series, Trans-Am Series and IMSA Camel GT. Hendrick Motorsports American racecar team

Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) is an American professional auto racing organization that competes in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team was founded in 1984 as All Star Racing by Rick Hendrick. Hendrick Motorsports has won a NASCAR-record 288 Cup Series races and 14 Cup Series owners and drivers championships to go with three Truck Series owners and drivers titles and one Xfinity Series drivers crown. NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour American auto racing series

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) is a modified stock car racing series owned and operated by NASCAR in the Modified Division. The Modified Division is NASCAR's oldest division, and is the only open-wheeled division that NASCAR sanctions. NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events are mainly held in the northeastern United States, but the 2007 and 2008 tours expanded to the Midwest with the addition of a race in Mansfield, Ohio. The tour races primarily on short oval paved tracks, but the NWMT also has made appearances at larger ovals and road courses.

D. J. Kennington Canadian stock car racing driver

Douglas James "D. J." Kennington is a Canadian professional stock car racing driver. He currently competes full-time in the NASCAR Pinty's Series, driving the No. 17 Dodge Challenger for his own team DJK Racing. He won the 2010 and 2012 Pinty's Series championships. Kennington also previously competed part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, driving the No. 99 Toyota Supra for B. J. McLeod Motorsports, and part-time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Spire Motorsports. Frank Douglas Coby III is an American professional racing driver who competes full-time in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, driving the No. 10 Ford/Chevrolet for his team, Doug Coby Racing, he has also competed part-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, driving the No. 24 Chevrolet Silverado for GMS Racing.
