BEAMA, formerly the British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers' Association, is a trade association for energy infrastructure companies in the United Kingdom.

History

The organisation was established in 1902 as the National Electrical Manufacturers' Association before changing its name to the British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers' Association in 1911.

The first director was Daniel Nicol Dunlop, also chairman of the first World Power Conference (now the World Energy Council) in 1924. [1]

A collection of the organisation's records for the period 1905 to 1986 is held in the Modern Records Centre of the University of Warwick covering the subjects of trolley buses, electric welding, electric railroads, the electric industries, and the training of electrical engineers. [2]

Sir "Gerard" Vincent Ziani de Ferranti, CBE MC was the second son of Dr Sebastian Ziani de Ferranti and Gertrude de Ferranti. As chairman of Ferranti from 1930 to 1963, he was responsible for evolving the company into a diverse multimillion-pound organisation recognized as an industry leader in electrical engineering, electronics and avionics.

IEC 61851 is an international standard for electric vehicle conductive charging systems, parts of which are currently still under development(written 2017). IEC 61851 is one of the International Electrotechnical Commission's group of standards for electric road vehicles and electric industrial trucks and is the responsibility of IEC Technical Committee 69 (TC69).
