BYKO is an Icelandic hardware store chain. [1] [2]
In 1962 Guðmundur H. Jónsson and Hjalti Bjarnason opened a hardware store on Kársnesbraut in Kópavogur under the name Byggnadsvaruverslun Kópavogur. [3] [4] In 1972, the store was moved to Nýbýlavegur 6, and by 1988 the store had moved once again to a larger premises [5]
BYKO currently operates stores in six locations around the country, with the flagship store being in Reykjavik. [6]
Hafnarfjörður, officially Hafnarfjarðarkaupstaður, is a port town and municipality in Iceland, located about 10 km (6 mi) south of Reykjavík. Pétur Karl Guðmundsson is an Icelandic former professional basketball player and coach. Standing 2.18 m (7'2"), weighing 118 kg (260 lb) and playing the center position, Pétur was the first Icelander and one of the first European players ever to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Often described as the greatest Icelandic basketball player of all time, he was named the Icelandic Basketball Player of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association in 2001, and in 2015, he was inducted in to the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland Hall of Fame. Pétur was also a member of the Icelandic national basketball team from 1978 to 1992 but missed several years of competition due to FIBA rules banning professional players from playing for national teams.
As of 2024, Iceland has no public railway system, although there have been three small short-lived railways in the past. The main reasons for the lack of railways are the small population outside the capital region, the availability of automobile, bus, and air transportation for inter-city travel, and the sometimes harsh environment.

The Breiðablik men's football team is the men's football department of the Breiðablik multi-sport club. It currently plays in the Besta deild karla, the top-tier men's football league in Iceland; they finished 1st in 2022. The team is based in Kópavogur, a large town situated a short distance south of the capital of Reykjavík. Breiðablik is the first Icelandic football club to play in the group stage of a major UEFA-organized European competition, more specifically in the 2023–24 season of UEFA Europa Conference League.
