Backyard Ashes is a 2013 Australian comedy film about backyard cricket.
Backyard Ashes was shot in the town of Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, the first of two films to be shot in the town (the other being Stakes). [2]
Film critic Paul Byrnes wrote in The Sydney Morning Herald : "Grentell has good timing and an inventive, unpredictable eye for a gag. He has a feel for the dryness of Australian humour, without the jingoism." The film earned a profit and [3] [4] grossed over $100,000 in just four cinemas in its first month. It went on to screen on more than 70 screens nationally, grossing over $600,000, and continues to pay small royalties. [5] [6]
Cootamundra, nicknamed Coota, is a town in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia and within the Riverina. It is within the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council. At the 2016 Census, Cootamundra had a population of 6,782. It is located on the Olympic Highway at the point where it crosses the Muttama Creek, between Junee and Cowra. Joe Cinque's Consolation is a 2016 Australian drama film directed by Sotiris Dounoukos based on the book of the same name by Helen Garner. It concerns the increasingly fraught relationship between an engineer, Joe, and his narcissistic law student girlfriend Anu in Canberra in the mid 1990s. As Anu's mental state deteriorates, she conjures up a macabre plan to put an end to her suffering. The film was given a national cinema release in October 2016 and has received a generally positive response from critics.
