Law School [1] of Baku State University, [2] or Faculty of Law is one of the 16 schools (or faculties) of BSU.

History

According to the directions of Azerbaijan C (b)P in 1927 under the decision of administrative personnel of Azerbaijan State University and State Scientific Board of Public Education Commissariat of the Republic, the branch of law was made inside the Oriental Studies department of the University. In 1928 the Branch of law changed into the Faculty of Law. School of Law has an old history and educated thousands of lawyers.

International cooperation

The school has international cooperation with universities like Ankara University, Selcuk University, Moscow State University, Wurzburg University, GWU Law School and many others.

The school has more than 100 academic personnel; currently it has 2183 students enrolled during the 2022-23 year. [4]

Law enforcement in Azerbaijan comes under the control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, which administers the National Police of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Admitted to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on 30 January 1992, with an OSCE office opening in Baku on 16 November 1999, and as a member of INTERPOL, the National police force is well integrated into the law enforcement network of European countries.

The legal system of Azerbaijan is based on civil law. As the country was a republic of the Soviet Union until 1991, its legal history has also been influenced heavily by socialist law. However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan became independent by enactment of the constitutional act of national independence on October 18, 1991. Azerbaijan started reformation of the legal system by the establishing of democratic reforms. This was followed by the adoption of the first Constitution in 1995 which is the foundation of the legislative system of the modern country. The Constitution creates the system of presidential republic with a separation of powers among the Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches of the government in order to prevent abuse of power.
