The Ball State Cardinals women's basketball team represents the Ball State University in women's basketball. The school competes in the Mid-American Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Cardinals play home basketball games at Worthen Arena on the Ball State campus in Muncie, Indiana. [2]
As of the 2022–23 season, the Cardinals have a 637–702 record, with a 339–367 record in the Mid-American Conference. [3] [4] [5] Ball State has won the Mid-American Conference women's basketball tournament once, in 2009, while finishing as runner-up in 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2014. In their lone appearance in the Tournament, the Cardinals (ranked as a 12 seed) beat the 5th seeded Tennessee Lady Volunteers 71–55, the first ever loss for the Lady Vols in the first round. They lost in the second round to Iowa State 71–57. [6]
They have won the MAC West Division in 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2015 while finishing as regular season champions in 2002 and 2003. They have made 11 appearances in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (2002, 2003, 2007, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018,2022, and 2023), with a WNIT Final 16 appearance in 2013 and a Second Round appearance in 2016, 2018, and 2023. [7] [8] On December 21, 2017, the Cardinals defeated Western Kentucky and remained undefeated in non-conference play for the first time in school history. [9]

The Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) is a women's national college basketball tournament with a preseason and postseason version played every year. It is operated in a similar fashion to the men's college National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and NIT Season Tip-Off. Unlike the NIT, the women's tournament is not run by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), but is an independent tournament. Triple Crown Sports, a company based in Fort Collins, Colorado that specializes in the promotion of amateur sporting events, created the WNIT in 1994 as a preseason counterpart to the then-current National Women's Invitational Tournament (NWIT). After the NWIT folded in 1996, Triple Crown Sports resurrected the postseason version in 1998 under the NWIT name, but changed the following season to the current name.

The school's team currently competes in the Mid-American Conference. The team last played in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 2000.
The Ohio State women's basketball team represents Ohio State University and plays its home games in the Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center, which they moved into in 1998. Prior to 1998, they played at St. John Arena. They have won 14 Big Ten titles, which is the most in the conference and have 23 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, the most recent being in 2023. In 1993, they lost to Sheryl Swoopes and Texas Tech 84–82 for the national title. They captured the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) title in 2001, beating the New Mexico Lobos 62–61. Notable alumni include former All-Americans Katie Smith and Jessica Davenport. They are currently coached by Kevin McGuff, who was previously the head coach at the University of Washington.
Cristy McKinney is an American former women's basketball coach. She found most success as the head coach at Rice University from 1993 to 2005, posting a 216–138 record and winning two Western Athletic Conference Tournament championships. She also led the Owls to four Women's National Invitation Tournaments and two NCAA Tournaments. McKinney was inducted into Rice's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013, and she remains the school's winningest coach.

The Auburn Tigers women's basketball program is the intercollegiate women's basketball team that represents Auburn University. The school competes in the Southeastern Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Tigers play their homes games at Auburn Arena in Auburn, Alabama on the university campus. The program began in 1971.
The 2011 Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) was an annual single-elimination tournament of 64 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that were not selected to participate in the 2011 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament. The tournament was played entirely on campus sites. The highest-ranked team in each conference that did not receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament received an automatic bid to this tournament. The remaining slots were filled by the WNIT Selection Committee. In the championship game, the Toledo Rockets defeated the USC Trojans, 76–68, before a sellout crowd of 7,301 at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio. The tournament MVP, Naama Shafir, scored a career-high 40 points to lead the Rockets.
The Lamar Lady Cardinals basketball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I women's basketball competition. The team plays in the 10,080 seat Montagne Center. The Lady Cardinals currently compete at the NCAA Division I level in the Southland Conference.
The Wyoming Cowgirls basketball team is a women's college basketball team at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. Competing in the Mountain West Conference, the organization has a tradition dating back to 1973.

The Kent State Golden Flashes women's basketball team represents Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, United States. The Golden Flashes compete in the Mid-American Conference and last played in the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament in 2024. Founded in 1973 as a club team, the Kent State women's basketball team received varsity status in 1975 and played their first official game in January 1976. Through the 2023–24 season, the Flashes have six total appearances in the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament along with four Mid-American Conference tournament championships, five MAC overall titles, and nine MAC East division titles. Home games are held at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center, which has been the team's home venue since 1977. The head coach is Todd Starkey, who was hired April 19, 2016.
Tricia Cullop is the current head coach of the Miami Hurricanes women's basketball team. She previously was the head coach with the Toledo Rockets women's basketball team.

The Arizona Wildcats women's basketball program is the official women's basketball program at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Basketball is one of eleven women's sports at the University of Arizona. The team is a Division I member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Big 12 athletic conference. The team's home venue is the McKale Center, which seats 14,545 fans. The official team colors are cardinal red and navy blue. The Wildcats have qualified for eight NCAA Tournaments. On August 4, 2023, Arizona announced it would join the Big 12 Conference along with Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah beginning in the 2024-25 academic year.
The 2015–16 Ball State Cardinals women's basketball team represented Ball State University during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Cardinals, led by fourth-year head coach Brady Sallee, played their home games at Worthen Arena as members of the West Division of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). They finished the season 22–10, 13–5 in MAC play, and finished the season in second place in the West Division. They lost in the quarterfinals of the MAC women's tournament to Eastern Michigan. They were invited to the Women's National Invitation Tournament where defeated Iowa Hawkeyes in the first round before losing in the second round to Saint Louis.
American Eagles women's basketball team represents American University and plays its home games at Bender Arena in Washington D.C. It competes as part of the Patriot League in NCAA Division I. In 2015, it received its first ever bid in the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament as a 14 seed after a 28–4 record and their first ever Patriot League tournament championship. They lost to #3 Iowa 75–67 in the First Round.

They lost in the first of the MAC women's tournament to Toledo.
