Djibouti is a country in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Somaliland to the southeast, Eritrea and the Red Sea to the north and northeast, Ethiopia to the west and south, and the Gulf of Aden to the east.

Saint Yared was an Ethiopian composer from Axum, Ethiopia, a pioneer of the traditional music of Ethiopia and Eritrea and creator of religious music for the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Eritrean Orthodox Church, and the use in liturgical music, as well as the Ethiopian musical notation system. Additionally, he composed Zema, or the chant tradition of Ethiopia, particularly the chants of the Ethiopian-Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Churches, which are still performed today. He is regarded as a saint of the Ethiopian-Eritrean Orthodox Church with a feast day of May 19. His name is from the Biblical person known in English as "Jared".
The Mareb River is a river flowing out of central Eritrea. Its chief importance is defining part of the boundary between Eritrea and Ethiopia, between the point where the Mai Ambassa enters the river at 14°53.6′N37°54.8′E to the confluence of the Balasa with the Mareb at 14°38′N39°1.3′E.
The Danakil Desert is a desert in northeast Ethiopia, southern Eritrea, and northwestern Djibouti. Situated in the Afar Triangle, it stretches across 136,956 square kilometres (52,879 sq mi) of arid terrain. It is inhabited by a few Afar, who engage in salt mining. The area is known for its volcanoes and extreme heat, with daytime temperatures surpassing 50 °C (122 °F). Less than 25 mm (1 in) of rainfall occurs each year. The Danakil Desert is one of the lowest and hottest places on Earth.

Buhoodle, also known as Bohotle, is a city in the Togdheer region of Somaliland. It is a prominent border town for movements of goods to and from Somaliland and the Somali Region of Ethiopia. The surrounding district is rich in both livestock and fledgeling agriculture.
The 2010 Ayn clashes saw Somaliland forces engage Dulbahante clan militia in the Buuhoodle district. The battle was prompted by Ethiopian troops seizing a truck belonging to locals in Buuhoodle, sparking a response from residents and Ethiopian retaliatory attack on Buuhoodle and a Somaliland attack upon Widhwidh. More clashes were reported to have occurred near Widhwidh on 19 July 2010.
Qorilugud is a sizeable town in Togdheer region of Somaliland, located north by road from Buuhoodle. It is the second-largest town in Buuhoodle District after the district capital Buuhoodle.
Abdihakim Abdullahi Haji Omar, also known as Abdihakin Abdullahi Omar Amey, is a Somali politician. He was the Vice President of Puntland.
Mohamed Yusuf Jama commonly called Indhosheel is a Somali politician. He was governor of Mudug and the president of Khatumo State.
Balidhiig, also known as Balli Dhiig is a town in the Togdheer region of Somaliland, on the border of Somaliland and Ethiopia.
Ciid is an archaic native geographic name for the land between the region of Mudug and the Nugaal Valley, roughly congruous with the northern Bookh district in Ethiopia. As such, Ciid constitutes the tripoint of the former three colonial powers Abyssinia, Britain and Italy, thus situating Mudug immediately southeast of Ciid, the Nugaal Valley immediately north of Ciid, and Haud to the west of Ciid. One historian referred to it as the syrup-colored land and it is today embodied by Ciid towns such as Xamxam, Magacley, Qoriley, Biriqodey, Beerdhiga and Gumburka Cagaare. Ciid constitutes the northern third of the disputed Somali-Ethiopian territory outlined in the 16 May 1908 Italo-Ethiopian border agreement also called the 1908 Convention. A 2001 Journal from Indiana University describes Ciid as being congruous with Boocame District by referring to Ciid as north of the Mudug region and the west of the Garowe region.
