Banani Lake is a lake in Dhaka, Bangladesh, bordering Banani, Gulshan, Korail Slum, and Mohakhali. [1] [2]

History

Following the July 2016 Dhaka attack, the government imposed a ban on boats in the lake because of security concerns. [3] [4] The lake has faced encroachment from the Karail area. [5] The lake borders the largest slum, Korail, and the posh neighborhood of Gulshan. [6]

Dhaka City Corporation

Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) was the former self-governing corporation that was entrusted with the task of running the municipal affairs of Dhaka city. The incorporated area was divided into several wards. Each ward has an elected ward commissioner. The mayor of the city was elected by popular vote every five years, although the last mayoral election took place in 2002. The Corporation was dissolved by the Local Government Amendment Bill 2011 on 29 November, passed in the Parliament of Bangladesh, and formally ceased to exist on 1 December 2011, following the President's approval, making way for a Dhaka North and a Dhaka South city corporations.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is an autonomous body that governs 54 northern wards of Dhaka. It is one of two municipal corporations in Dhaka, the other being Dhaka South City Corporation. Annisul Huq was the first mayor of the Dhaka North City Corporation, after being elected in April 2015. Md. Atiqul Islam is the current mayor of DNCC since 7 March 2019.

Khondaker Hasibul Kabir is a Bangladeshi landscape architect and sustainability advocate who works with Bangladeshi development agencies such as BRAC and Grameen in rural and sustainable architecture. He first proposed "The Platform of Hope" in 2007 when he moved personally in with family in the slums and designed a community space. It was showcased in the Cooper–Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York City. He also worked with German Architect Anna Heringer on the METI Handmade School in Rudrapur, Bangladesh which received the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2007.

Banani Model Town is part of Ward No. 19 in Banani Thana, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Dhaka Tribune described it as a "posh" neighborhood of Dhaka and part of its diplomatic area.

July 2016 Dhaka attack

On the night of 1 July 2016, at 21:20 local time, five militants took hostages and opened fire on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan Thana. The assailants entered the bakery with crude bombs, machetes, pistols, and took several dozen hostages. In the immediate response, while Dhaka Metropolitan Police tried to regain control of the bakery, two police officers were shot dead by the assailants.

Latifur Rahman (businessman) Bangladeshi businessman

Latifur Rahman was a Bangladeshi business magnate and media mogul. He served as the founding chairman and CEO of Transcom Group which deals with beverages, electrical and electronics products, pharmaceuticals, fast food, snacks and breakfast cereals, print media, FM radio and tea plantations mostly as the comprador of international brands like Pizza Hut, KFC, Pepsi and Philips. He was the founding director of Mediaworld and Chairman of Mediastar, which owned The Daily Star and Prothom Alo newspapers respectively. Both are the nation's leading English and Bangla newspapers.

Gulshan Club is a social club for residents of Gulshan located in the Capital Dhaka. Shawkat Aziz Russel was elected unopposed President of the club for the year 2017–2018. The club has been described as "exclusive".

Gulshan Lake

Gulshan Lake is a lake in Dhaka, Bangladesh, that borders Gulshan Thana, Shahjadpur, and Baridhara Diplomatic Zone.

Banani DOHS also known as "Old DOHS", is a neighborhood of Dhaka, located in Banani. It was created under the Defense Officers Housing Scheme (DOHS) scheme of the Government of Bangladesh. The neighborhood falls under the Jurisdiction of Bhashantek Police Station. The area is governed by the DOHS parishad.

Syeda Marium Gulshan Hossain is a painter and installation artist based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her work has been exhibited extensively. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of the Department of Painting at University of Development Alternative Dhaka and is a member of the International Miniature Art Society of Florida, USA.

Rampura Thana is an administrative unit of Dhaka.It is situated near bonosree. This is a very densely populated area. Markets, super shops, stores and pharmacies are near by within 200 meters of radius. Essential transportation as well as hospitals are also easily assessable.
