Completed in 1881, it was a major research facility for about 50 years. Today, it is home to the UW-Madison College of Letters and Science Honors Program, while the telescope remains in use by students in introductory astronomy courses and the general public during open houses and viewings.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bayfield County Courthouse</span> United States historic place

Bayfield County Courthouse is a historic courthouse in Washburn, Wisconsin. Construction on the courthouse began in 1894, two years after the county seat moved to Washburn and was completed in 1896. The courthouse cost $31,737 to build. The Neoclassical building features a domed cupola, a portico with Corinthian columns as its front entrance, and quoins at the corners. When first built, the courthouse had an extensive telephone system connecting each office; at the time, this was considered "one of the proudest achievements" of the new building.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Washburn Public Library</span> United States historic place

The Washburn Public Library is a Carnegie library in Washburn, Wisconsin, United States. The library was built in 1904; it was the first permanent home for Washburn's library program, which began in 1891 and had previously operated out of City Hall. Architect Henry Wildhagen designed the building in the Neoclassical style. The library's front entrance is located in a portico with Ionic columns. Three windows with a joined sill are located on each side of the entrance, and chimneys on either end add to the building's symmetrical appearance. The building was built with local brownstone. The library is still in operation.

Mill City Museum is located in the ruins of the Washburn "A" Mill next to Mill Ruins Park on the banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. The museum, an entity of the Minnesota Historical Society that opened in 2003, focuses on the founding and growth of Minneapolis, especially flour milling and the other industries that used hydropower from Saint Anthony Falls. The mill complex that the museum is within, dates from the 1870s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also part of the St. Anthony Falls Historic District and within the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area.

Henry Wildhagen was one of northern Wisconsin's best-known architects at the turn of the 20th century.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">George V. Siegner House</span> Historic house in Wisconsin, United States

The George V. Siegner House is a historic house at 513 Dale Street in Spooner, Wisconsin. The house was built in 1904 for businessman George V. Siegner, owner of the local Big C.O.D. Bee Hive Department Store. Siegner, who moved to the area in 1893, was so successful that he became both the richest man in Washburn County and one of its largest landowners. The Queen Anne house, a later example of the style, is one of the few homes in the city with a formal design. The house features gables with decorative woodwork, two square towers with finials at their peaks, and wraparound porches at both front entrances.
