The Charleston Cougars men's basketball team is an NCAA Division I college basketball team representing the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. The Cougars compete in the Coastal Athletic Association. Home games are played at TD Arena, located on College of Charleston's campus. While a member of the NAIA, they were National Champions in 1983. The Cougars have appeared seven times in the NCAA tournament, most recently in 2024.

They finished the season 19–12, 11–7 in Big South play to finish in a tie for third place. They lost in the semifinals of the Big South Basketball tournament to UNC Asheville. Despite having 19 wins, they did not accept an invitation to a post season tournament.

As a regular season conference champion, and #1 seed in their conference tournament, who failed to win their conference tournament they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to Old Dominion.

Saah Nimley is a Liberian college basketball coach and former player who is the head coach of the men's basketball team at Charleston Southern University, his alma mater. As a senior at Charleston Southern in 2014–15, Nimley averaged 21.5 points and 4.1 assists per game, ranking first and third in the Big South, respectively. The guard was named the Big South Player of the Year that year.

As the No. 1 seed in the Big South tournament, they defeated Charleston Southern, Gardner–Webb, and Campbell to win the tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, their first bid since 2010. In the NCAA Tournament, they lost in the first round to Butler.

They defeated Charleston Southern in quarterfinals of the Big South tournament before losing in the semifinals to Hampton. As a regular season conference champion, and No. 1 seed in their conference tournament, who failed to win their conference tournament, they received and automatic bid to the NIT. However, the NIT, and all other postseason tournaments, were cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
