Bashar Wali (born January 9, 1971) is a Syrian-American hotelier known for his work in the hospitality industry. He was the former president and Principal at Provenance Hotels. [1] He is the founder and CEO of Practice Hospitality and This Assembly. [2] [3] [4] [5]

Career

Wali held the position of President/CEO at Provenance Hotels for 15 years, during which he expanded the company from five to fifteen hotels. [6] Under his leadership, the team grew to 1,500 members, and the brand gained recognition and awards on a national level. The company's annual revenue exceeded $150 million. [7]

Wali has worked in the hospitality industry for over 30 years. He worked at Starwood Hotels and later led global acquisitions and development at Grand Heritage Hotels. [8] [9]

In 2016, Wali and Portland hotelier Gordon Sondland had their names added as sponsors of a Donald J. Trump fundraiser without their approval. [10] [11] Wali denied any links with the fundraiser and confirmed that he in fact was neither hosting nor attending any fundraisers for the Trump campaign in Seattle or Portland. [12] [13]

A 4 foot bust of York, the only African American on the Lewis and Clark Expedition, was installed in Portland, Oregon's Mount Tabor Park, in the United States, from February to July 2021. The artist stayed anonymous at first, but after the bust was removed he revealed himself as Todd McGrain. McGrain was a student of Darrell Millner, Portland State University professor of history and Black Studies. The bust appeared on February 20, replacing the statue of Harvey W. Scott, which had been toppled on October 20, 2020. McGrain did not seek city permission to install the bust, which McGrain expected to be temporary; on June 11 the city announced that it would remove the bust.
