Basketball was one of the disciplines which was held at the 1997 West Asian Games in Tehran, Iran. Because of some last minute withdrawals, only two teams were left for the competition, Iran and Turkmenistan. Two other Iranian teams were added to the competition but they didn't receive medals. Only gold and silver medals were awarded. Iran beat Turkmenistan in the final to win the gold medal. [1]

The swimming competitions at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens took place from 14 to 21 August 2004 at the Athens Olympic Aquatic Centre in Marousi. It featured 32 events, a total of 937 swimmers from 152 nations, and the program's changes instituted in the previous Games, including notably the three-phase format for all short-distance races.

Bakhtiyar Karipullauly Artayev is a Kazakh boxer who won the gold medal for Kazakhstan at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He was also the winner of the Val Barker Trophy for the outstanding boxer of the 2004 Olympics. In recognition of his success, one of the Taraz sport centres was named after him. In 2012 he was appointed as a president of the Astana Presidential Sports Club.
Many sports in Iran are both traditional and modern. Football at the 2006 Asian Games was held in Doha, Qatar from 18 November to 15 December 2006. The opening match was played 14 days prior to the opening ceremony. In this tournament, some 30 teams played in the men's competition, and 8 teams participated in women's competition.
The Turkmenistan Fed Cup team represents Turkmenistan in international women's tennis and is directed by the Turkmenistan Tennis Association. The team played in the first ever tournament in 2004, and five occasions since. Prior to 1993, Turkmenistani players competed for the Soviet Union.
The fourth edition of the Women's Islamic Games took place in Tehran and Rasht, Iran in September 2005. A total of 45 countries, 200 teams, and 1316 athletes competed at the Games, which featured fifteen separate sports. The competition was overseen by 516 referees, from twelve countries, and 15 international observers. The 2005 event saw many countries competing for the first time, including the United States and numerous East Asian, European and African countries. Iran won the competition with a total of 102 medals.
The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which is also counted as the 5th Asian Indoor Games, was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in 2017. It became the third city in the former Soviet countries to win the right of hosting an Olympic Council of Asia-sanctioned event, following Astana and Almaty in Kazakhstan, which jointly-hosted the 2011 Asian Winter Games. The host city was chosen in Kuwait on 19 December 2010. On 6 July 2013 the flag of the Olympic Council of Asia was officially handed over to the mayor of the city of Ashgabat.
The 19th Asian Athletics Championships were held in Kobe, Japan between July 7–10, 2011 at the Kobe Universiade Memorial Stadium. The tournament had 507 athletes from forty Asian nations competing in the 42 track and field events over the four-day competition.
The Turkmenistan national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey team of Turkmenistan. The team is controlled by the Turkmenistan Ice Hockey Federation and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Turkmenistan is currently ranked 49th in the IIHF World Ranking and made its debut in the 2018 World Championship Division III Qualification tournament.
The men's sanda 75 kg competition at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China was held from 13 November to 17 November at the Nansha Gymnasium.

Vijay Sundar Prashanth is a professional Indian tennis player. He caught everyone eye, when he won against Indian Davis Cup player Yuki Bhambri at 2015 Aircel Chennai Open. Prashanth has a career high ATP singles ranking of 335 achieved on 5 October 2015. He also has a career high ATP doubles ranking of 193 achieved on 2 August 2018. Prashanth has won Individual Doubles GOLD for India at the INDOOR ASIAN GAMES held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in September 2017. He also won Individual Singles SILVER for India at the INDOOR ASIAN GAMES held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in September 2017.
Iran competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Since the nation's debut in 1948, Iranian athletes had attended in every Summer Olympic Games of the modern era, with the exception of the 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics.

Turkmenistan competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Turkmenistan first participated at the Asian Games in 1994 Hiroshima, and at the last edition in Incheon, the country won a silver and a bronze medals.
Behzad Vahdani was born on 29 May 1988 in Kolab Village, Bojnord, North Khorasan Province, Iran. He is the champion of the Kurash in the world. He is an Iranian judoka and former member of the Kurash national team of Iran. He won a gold medal in Kurash field on 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. In October 2019, Arash Miresmaeili was selected Behzad Vahdani as the coach of the national adolescents Judo team.
