The Bayreuther Osterfestival is an Easter Festival held at Bayreuth in Germany. It has the three aims of raising money for cancer charities, providing experience and opportunities for young musicians, and the promotion of international understanding. It is connected with the work of the International Youth Orchestra Academy, and was founded in 1994.
The Bayreuther Osterfestival was founded by Prof. Dr. Ulrich S. Schubert and Dr. Andreas Göldel in co-operation with director Prof. August Everding and the Australian conductor Sir Charles Mackerras. The Festival, with its charity concerts for the benefit of children who suffer from cancer, takes place every year at Easter. The festival started with the symphonic concerts of the Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie and now its program ranges from symphonic and chamber orchestra concerts to organ music, festival brass, jazz and salonorchestra concerts. In 2007 the genre opera has been added to the festival’s program for the first time, with Antonio Salieri’s “Prima la musica e poi le parole”. Musical Director and conductor of the opera was Christoph Ulrich Meier. The opera, the symphonic concerts and the festival brass (directed and conducted by Bob Ross) take place at the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth (Germany).
Musical director of the festival is Prof. Dr. Ulrich S. Schubert. Responsible body of the Bayreuther Osterfestival is the social- and cultural foundation Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie. Administrative centre of the foundation is Playstein (Germany). Besides the Bayreuther Osterfestival and the Osterfestival Nördliche Oberpfalz the foundation presents and organizes also the Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie, a range orchestra of young musicians from all over the world who, in a two weeks workshop, study a symphonic program and since 2007, with a smaller orchestra, an opera. With this program the young musicians go on tour. In the last years the orchestra of the IJOA had guest performances in Bayreuth (Margravial Opera House), Weiden (Max-Reger-Halle), Selb (Rosenthal-Theater), Leipzig (Thomaskirche) und Bielefeld (Neustädter Marienkirche). Since 2004 Miguel Gómez-Martínez conducts the IJOA orchestra.
Sponsoring makes it possible for the Bayreuther Osterfestival to donate all the proceeds of the concerts for the benefit of children suffering from cancer at the children’s hospital in Bayreuth (Germany).

Until now the charity concerts raised €200,000 which could be donated to the children’s hospital in Bayreuth.

Bruno Walter was a German-born conductor, pianist and composer. Born in Berlin, he left Germany in 1933 to escape the Third Reich, was naturalized as a French citizen in 1938, and settled in the United States in 1939. He worked closely with Gustav Mahler, whose music he helped to establish in the repertory, held major positions with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Salzburg Festival, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Staatsoper Unter den Linden and Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others, made recordings of historical and artistic significance, and is widely considered to be one of the great conductors of the 20th century.
The Bayreuth Festspielhaus or Bayreuth Festival Theatre is an opera house north of Bayreuth, Germany, built by the 19th-century German composer Richard Wagner and dedicated solely to the performance of his stage works. It is the venue for the annual Bayreuth Festival, for which it was specifically conceived and built. Its official name is Richard-Wagner-Festspielhaus.

The Margravial Opera House is a Baroque opera house in the town of Bayreuth, Germany, built between 1745 and 1750. It is one of Europe's few surviving theatres of the period and has been extensively restored. On 30 June 2012, the opera house was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie (IJOA), or International Youth Orchestra Academy, is an international range orchestra for young people, based in Pleystein, Bavaria. It has special associations with the Bayreuth Easter Festival. The organization has three aims: to help and support children suffering from cancer in those regions and areas where the concerts of the IJOA orchestra take place; the promotion of young musicians; and to develop the international understanding of the musicians, who come from different backgrounds from all over the world, and meet to make music and play together in one orchestra.
The Kultur- und Sozialstiftung Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie or Cultural and Social Foundation International Young Orchestra Academy is a charitable foundation governed by public law. The aims of the foundation are to help and support children suffering from cancer, the promotion of culture, especially music, and to promote international understanding. Chairman of the foundation is Prof. Dr. Ulrich S. Schubert, deputy chairman is MdB Hartmut Koschyk.
Ulrich Sigmar Schubert is a professor of Chemistry at University of Jena. He studied chemistry at the Universities of Frankfurt and Bayreuth and the Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, United States. His Ph.D. work was performed under the supervision of Professor Eisenbach and George R. Newkome, Florida, United States. In 1995, he obtained his doctorate with Eisenbach. After a postdoctoral training with Jean-Marie Lehn at the University of Strasbourg (France), he moved to the Technical University of Munich (Germany) to obtain his habilitation in 1999. From 1999 to spring 2000 he held a temporal position as a professor at the Center for NanoScience at the Technical University of Munich. He became a Full-Professor in summer 2000 at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Since summer 2007, Schubert teaches at the University of Jena and holds the chair for Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry. From 2010, he is the scientific chairman in the fields of HTE at the Dutch Polymer Institute. In addition, he acts as the Director of the "Institute of Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry" and directs the research cluster "Innovative Materials and Technologies" at the University of Jena. He currently is the director of the Jena Center for Soft Mater (JCSM) and the Center for Energy and Environmental Chemistry Jena.
A youth orchestra is an orchestra made of young musicians, typically ranging from pre-teens or teenagers to those in their mid-20s. Because young children do not usually start playing double bass until a later age than those playing the smaller instruments, double bass players in youth orchestras tend to be in the early to mid-20s. The typical youth orchestra involves members from across an entire city, region or state. In some cases, there are national youth orchestras, which consist of the best young musicians in a country, as determined by auditions. More rarely, there may even be international youth orchestras. Youth orchestras are led by an adult conductor who is often a music teacher or orchestral musician. In addition to leading the rehearsals and performances, the conductor teaches orchestral playing techniques, performance practice and music ensemble skills to the children and youth.

She is known for her parts in the Jahrhundertring, the centenary production of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayreuth Festival, including the filmed version of 1980.
Petra Lang is a German opera singer. Beginning as a mezzo-soprano, from 2012 a soprano, she is known for her interpretation of music by Richard Wagner and Gustav Mahler. She made an international career in both opera and concert. She has performed at the Bayreuth Festival from 2005, singing the title role of Isolde in 2016.
