Beach volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of two players on a sand court divided by a net. As in indoor volleyball, the objective of the game is to send the ball over the net and to ground it on the opponent's side of the court, and to prevent the same effort by the opponent.
Footvolley is a sport which combines aspects of beach volleyball and association football.
The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, commonly known by the acronym FIVB, is the international governing body for all forms of volleyball. Its headquarters are located in Lausanne, Switzerland and its current president is Brazilian Ary Graça.

Koichi "Nishi" Nishimura is a beach volleyball player from Japan. Nishimura began his career as an indoor volleyball player and played Libero for the Japanese National Team. In 2002 Nishimura switched to beach volleyball. He currently plays in "Winds" beach volleyball team. In 2009, Nishimura founded the environmental non-profit-organisation "Save the Beach".
Xue Chen is a Chinese female beach volleyball player, measuring 191 centimetres in height. Her hometown is Fuzhou, but she trains in Sanya, Hainan. She has also trained in California under coach Dane Selznick.

Koko Prasetyo Darkuncoro is a beach volleyball player from Indonesia. He competed at the 2006 Asian Games, and won a silver medal at the 2002 Asian Games. At the 2008 Asian Beach Games he received a gold medal with partner Andy Ardiyansah.

The Asian Beach Volleyball Championships is an international beach volleyball competition held every year in Asia and Oceania contested by the double-gender beach volleyball of the members of Asian Volleyball Confederation.
The volleyball tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was played between 6 and 21 August. 24 volleyball teams and 48 beach volleyball teams, total 386 athletes, participated in the tournament. The indoor volleyball competition took place at Ginásio do Maracanãzinho in Maracanã, and the beach volleyball tournament was held at Copacabana Beach, in the temporary Copacabana Stadium.
The volleyball tournaments at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo will be played between 25 July and 9 August. 24 volleyball teams and 48 beach volleyball teams will participate in the tournament. The indoor volleyball competition will take place at Ariake Arena in Ariake, and the beach volleyball tournament will be held at Shiokaze Park, in the temporary Shiokaze Park Stadium.
The South American Beach Games is a biennial multi-sport event in beach sports between athletes representing nations from South America. It is organised by ODESUR. The first event was held in 2009.

Zhang Changning is a female Chinese indoor volleyball and beach volleyball player. She is a member of China women's national volleyball team. On club level, she plays for Jiangsu Zenith Steel.
