"N.Y. State of Mind" is a song by hip hop recording artist Nas, taken from his debut studio album Illmatic (1994). The song's production was handled by DJ Premier who sampled two jazz songs: "Mind Rain" by Joe Chambers and "Flight Time" by Donald Byrd. Premier additionally scratched up vocal samples from Eric B. & Rakim's "Mahogany" for the song's hook. Nas raps two verses on the song in which he talks about his rapping talent and describes the dangerous environment that is the city of New York over a drum break sample of "N.T." by Kool & the Gang. The title of the album comes from an oil painting made by Carlton's late grandfather, whose given surname was Liberman.

The two major party candidates were longtime incumbent John Doolittle (R) and challenger Charles Brown (D). Doolittle retained his seat with 104,307 votes (49%) compared to Brown with 97,022 votes (46%). Libertarian Dan Warren got 5% of the vote.

"Run's House" is a single released by Run–D.M.C. from their fourth studio album Tougher Than Leather. It was released in 1988 through Profile Records and was produced and written by the group and Davy D. "Run's House" was the highest charting single from the album, making it to number ten on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The track was later used as the theme song for Run's show Run's House and was sampled by the group for their hit single, "Down with the King".
