Rebecca "Becs" Gentry (born 27 March 1986) is a Peloton instructor and leading British marathon runner based in New York City. [1] [2] [3]

Early life

Gentry grew up in Worcester, United Kingdom and was involved in athletics and cross country during school. [1] [3] Although she did not run during University, Gentry took up running in 2011 as a way to destress from her career in public relations. [1] [4]

Coaching career

Gentry started her career as a running coach in the United Kingdom and became a Nike+ Run Club Coach in London. [5] Gentry moved to New York City in 2019 to join Peloton as a Tread specialist. [6] Together with Robin Arzon, she developed an 18-week marathon training program for the Peloton app. [7] In this role, she has become a globally recognized trainer and face of the Peloton brand, [3] [8] partnering on initiatives with celebrities including Ashton Kutcher. [9]

Running career

Gentry is a long distance runner and has competed in marathon and ultramarathon races. [1] She ran 2:37:01 to finish first female (non-elite) in the 2019 New York City Marathon. [3] In March 2021, Gentry was invited to participate in the Olympic Marathon Trials for Team Great Britain. [1] [6] Gentry placed fourth in the trials with a time of 2:32:01. [6]

Alberto Salazar is an American former track coach and long-distance runner. Born in Cuba, Salazar immigrated to the United States as a child with his family, living in Connecticut and then in Wayland, Massachusetts, where Salazar competed in track and field in high school. Salazar won the New York City Marathon three times in the early 1980s, and won the 1982 Boston Marathon in a race known as the "Duel in the Sun". He set American track records for 5,000 m and 10,000 m in 1982. Salazar was later the head coach of the Nike Oregon Project. He won the IAAF Coaching Achievement Award in 2013.

Fred Torneden is an American mid- and long-distance runner who won several road racing victories in the 1980s and set the American record for the 20-mile distance in 1984. He competed for the United States at the first IAAF World Marathon Cup in 1985. He later became a coach and a pastor. He served as a children's pastor at Rock Hills Church in Manhattan, Kansas while continuing to run competitively at the masters level.

The 2022 New York City Marathon, the 51st running of that city's premier long-distance race, was held on November 6, 2022. The race followed its traditional route, which passes through all five boroughs of New York City. 47,839 people finished the event. It was the warmest New York City Marathon on record, with peak temperatures of 75 °F (24 °C).
