Belfield FM is University College Dublin's internet student radio station. The station began broadcasting in 1990. It was initially run as a part of the UCD Students' Union, under the remit of the entertainments office, before becoming an independent entity within the Students' Union (SU). Belfield FM disaffiliated with the SU at the end of the 2011/2012 college year, and is now run independently within the UCD Societies Council framework. [1] [2] The station forms part of UCD's "Student Media Network", along with The University Observer and The College Tribune . [2] The station is run by volunteer staff and contributors, [2] and broadcasts on week-days. [3]
Belfield FM have participated in the National Student Media Awards and have won a number of awards. [4] These included a People's Choice Award for William McCartney in 2018, [5] [6] a Radio Journalist award for Patrick Power in 2019, [7] and a People's Choice Award for Aisling Grennan in 2019. [7]
In 2015 the Societies Council temporarily closed the station due to it being unsupervised for lengths of time. [8]
In late 2018, "Keepin' it Country" was criticised by the College Tribune for inappropriate comments regarding named students live on air, [9] and the show's podcasts were subsequently removed. [10] In the subsequent semester of broadcasting, the controversial show was absent from the schedule of programming. [11]
In 2019, the show "Up Late with Dave" featured an interview with John Connors to discuss the travelling community in Ireland. During the interview, comments were made about the directors of Pavee Point which were reportedly described as "defamatory and slanderous". [12] The station later published an apology on their website. [12]

The College Tribune is a student newspaper which serves Ireland's largest third level institution, University College Dublin. It was established in 1989 with the assistance of journalist and broadcaster Vincent Browne who was attending the university as an evening student at the time. Browne noted the campus' lack of a news outlet which was independent of both the university and University College Dublin Students' Union and alongside founding editor Eamon Dillon set up the Tribune to correct this. Initially, a close working relationship was maintained between the Tribune and the Sunday Tribune which was at the time edited by Browne. This relationship afforded the paper the use of professional production facilities in its fledgling years. Ultimately however, the student newspaper would outlast its national weekly counterpart with the Sunday Tribune having ceased publication in 2011. The College Tribune is UCD's oldest surviving newspaper having been published continuously for over 30 years.

The Colours Match is an annual rugby union fixture between Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin. Rugby matches between UCD RFC and DUFC predate the inauguration of "The Colours Match". Their first meeting took place at Terenure on 18 October 1919, won by Trinity.

The UCD Law Society is one of the largest student societies in Europe. Established in 1911 as 'The Legal and Economic Society', as of 2009 it had approximately 4100 members drawn from the various faculties of the university. Weekly Tuesday night debates during term are the society's core activity. Individuals who have addressed the society include President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, former Irish Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern and President of the European Council Donald Tusk. The society's motto is "Ar son na Córa".

UCD Ladies' Hockey Club is a women's field hockey club based in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. It is the women's field hockey club of University College Dublin. In addition to playing in Colours matches with Dublin University and competing in intervarsity tournaments, the club also enter teams in the Women's Irish Hockey League, the Irish Senior Cup and the Irish Junior Cup. During the 2010s UCD has emerged as one Ireland's strongest teams in women's field hockey, winning three Irish Hockey League titles and four Irish Senior Cups. UCD has also represented Ireland in the 2015 and 2018 EuroHockey Club Champions Cups.
The Philosophy Society of University College Dublin was founded in 1965. The purpose of the society is to "encourage the learning, thinking and discussion of philosophical ideas; and to act as a social forum of exchange for those interested in philosophical or intellectual matters".
