Benedict Del Maestro also professionally known as Ben Del Maestro is a British singer. [1] [2] [3] He rose to prominence and limelight for singing the musical background score in the soundtrack for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003). [4]

Career

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King also musters the biggest staged forces, with sections calling for eight trumpets and a similar increase in the rest of the brass section, two timpanists, a mixed choir of 85 with additional singers for all-male and all-female parts, over fifty in the boy choir, various vocal soloists including the American soprano Renee Fleming and the boy soprano Ben Del Maestro. [5] [6] He was also widely acknowledged for his vocal contribution to the refrain of "Inner Universe" - the title track of the critically acclaimed Japanese manga anime series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. He contributed vocal for the song titled Fish ~ Silent Cruise which featured in the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex O.S.T. and also contributed vocal for the song titled Flashback Memory Plug alongside Origa which featured in the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex O.S.T. 3.

In 2024, the video footage of Ben Del Maestro performing with the London Oratory School Schola to finish the post-production work for the Lord of the Rings soundtrack resurfaced in social media platforms. [7] [8]

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is the soundtrack for the 2003 epic fantasy adventure film of the same name. The soundtrack was released on 25 November 2003. The limited edition contains a bonus DVD with the track "Use Well the Days" by Annie Lennox, song texts, photo gallery, and a Lord of the Rings trilogy supertrailer.

The action anime Darker than Black features music composed by Yoko Kanno who created one soundtrack. Kanno was approached by director Tensai Okamura in regards to ideas about detective stories-like scenario to fit the atmosphere. For the sequel, Darker than Black: Gemini of the Meteor, Kanno was replaced by Yasushi Ishii who described his music as a battlefield.

The music of The Lord of the Rings film series, composed by Howard Shore to accompany Peter Jackson's films, exists in multiple recordings. It was heard by cinema audiences in the "theatrical" version, also released on DVD. Three single-disc albums were then released, forming briefer concert-pieces that broadly aligned with the narrative content of each film. Limited Deluxe CD versions contained additional bonus tracks. Extended versions of the films were released on DVD, with additional scenes and their accompanying music. A multi-disc set, The Complete Recordings, covered the entire score of the extended versions of the films on CD. A CD, The Rarities Archives, accompanied a 2010 book by Doug Adams. Finally, Shore edited The Lord of the Rings Symphony in six movements from the score, for concert performance.
