Ben Bukari Salifu is a Native of Janga in the North East Region and Ghanaian politician from the New Patriotic Party. [1] He served as Regional Minister for the Northern Region from 14 February to 17 November 2001. [1] [2] [3] Prior to his appointment he recommended splitting the region into two for ease of administration. [2] He was subsequently Minister of State responsible for the National Development Planning Commission. [4]

He contested for the presidential candidate slot of the National Democratic Congress in 2019 but subsequently lost to former President John Dramani Mahama. On 7 January 2021 Bagbin was elected Speaker of 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
The Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) was the name of the Ghanaian government after the People's National Party's elected government was overthrown by Jerry Rawlings, the former head of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council, in a coup d'état on 31 December 1981. He remained in power until 7 January 1993. In a statement, Rawlings said that a "holy war" was necessary due to the PNP's failure to provide effective leadership and the collapse of the national economy and state services.

General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2008.
