The award was first given in 1942 for the films released in preceding year 1941.

<i>Dui Purush</i> (1945 film) 1945 Indian film

Dui Purush is a 1945 Bengali language epic family drama film directed by Subodh Mitra. The film was produced by New Theatres and adapted from Tarashankar Bandyopadhyay's novel and popular stage play, with a screenplay by Binoy Chatterjee. The editing was done by Mitra, who was popularly known as Kachi Babu, and cited as one of the best editors in the film industry. The music director was Pankaj Mullick with lyrics by Sailen Roy. The cinematographers were Sudhin Majumdar and Yusuf Mulji. The cast included Chhabi Biswas, Chandrabati Devi, Sunanda Banerjee, Ahindra Choudhury, Tulsi Chakraborty, Jahar Ganguly, and Naresh Mitra.

West Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards commonly referred as WBFJA Awards, is given by The West Bengal Film Journalists' Association. The association was founded in 2013 in Kolkata. The award show is called Cinemar Somaborton.

Arundhati Holme Chowdhury, also spelt as Arundhati Holme (Hom) Choudhury, is a Bengali Indian exponent of Rabindra Sangeet and Bengali songs. She has worked as a playback singer mostly in Bengali-language films.

The West Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role is given yearly by WBFJA as a part of its annual West Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards for Bengali films, to recognise the female performer who has delivered an outstanding performance in a leading role.
