Bernard Klatt

Bernard Klatt is a former Canadian internet service provider who ran what has been called "Canada's most notorious source of hate propaganda". [1] In 1996, his Fairview Technology Centre in Oliver, British Columbia hosted websites for "at least 12 groups promoting white supremacy and hate against minorities" according to the Simon Wiesenthal Centre. [2] The sites included the Heritage Front, the Euro-Canadian Defence League and the Canadian Patriot's Network - hosted at the Freedom Site, which is run by Marc Lemire as well as Skin-Net, White Power Skinheads, Berserk, New Order and Nordland. A preface page to the site warned the "racially weak-at-heart" not to go any further if they are offended. [2] The local cable TV company subsequently cut off Fairview's cable access and ordered Klatt to get his server computer out of its offices. [3]

Tyrone Mills, a former employee of Klatt's, told the media that Klatt gave him literature from the White Aryan Resistance and invited him to an Aryan Nations compound at Hayden Lake, Idaho. "I said no, I had no interest at all, and that was that," said Mills, who worked for Klatt for seven months. "Another time he asked me, in 1995, to manage his (business) while he was down in Hayden Lake." Mills also said that Klatt voiced racist views at work and once asked him to take the literature to a friend. [3]

In 1998, Klatt organized a meeting in the Okanagan town, coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racism, featuring Doug Collins, Doug Christie, Eileen Pressler and Paul Fromm. [4] 40 members of the rural community picketed the meeting which was attended by a handful of people. [5]

Klatt's internet service was closed in 1998 when BC Tel informed him of their refusal to accept legal liability for it. [6]

He was employed as a network analyst in the IT department of the City of Hamilton, Ontario, from around 2005 until 2019, when he agreed to resign.

By 1990, he was "one of the largest purveyors of white supremacist information in the country." Veh also served as leader of the gay neo-Nazi National Socialist League from 1974 until its dissolution in 1984.

Shomi was a Canadian subscription video on demand service jointly owned by Rogers Communications and Shaw Communications, in operation from 2014 to 2016. The service was viewed as a Canadian-based competitor to Netflix, with a library of 1,200 films and 11,000 hours' worth of television programs available on launch. Shomi content could be accessed as an over-the-top service through the service's website and apps, or through the video-on-demand libraries of participating television providers. The service emphasized manually curated categories of content, in contrast to the algorithmic approach used by competing services.

Thomas Linton Metzger was an American white supremacist, neo-Nazi leader and Klansman. He founded White Aryan Resistance (WAR), a neo-Nazi organization, in 1983. He was a Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1970s. Metzger voiced strong opposition to immigration to the United States, and was an advocate of the Third Position. He was incarcerated in Los Angeles County, California, and Toronto, Ontario, and was the subject of several lawsuits and government inquiries. He, his son, and WAR were fined a total of $12.5 million as a result of the murder of Mulugeta Seraw, 28, an Ethiopian student, by skinheads in Portland, Oregon, affiliated with WAR.
