Bernard Whittaker (1865-1957) was an English footballer who played in The Football League for Blackburn Rovers. [1]
Bernard Whittaker made his debut for Rovers at Inside-Left on 12 January 1889. The venue was Leamington Road, Blackburn then home of Blackburn Rovers, and their opponents were 'The Invincibles' the great Preston North End. Rovers got themselves a draw despite being behind twice. Whittaker achieved an assist for the 2nd equaliser. Whittaker played 3 more League matches, all at Inside-Left, and scoring the only Rovers goal at Anfield, Liverpool, then home of Everton. Whittaker assisted Rovers score 66 goals in 22 games the 2nd highest of that season. [2]

William McKay, known as Willie, was a Scottish professional footballer who played as an inside forward. According to sources he commenced his career at Hearts. It is unclear when he joined Burnley, but it is reasonable to assume it was during the second half of 1888. He made his Burnley and English Football League debut on 3 November 1888. The occasion was the visit of Blackburn Rovers to Turf Moor, the home of Burnley. He scored Burnley' only goal in a heavy 7-1 defeat. He played 14 of Burnley' 22 League matches top-scoring with seven goals. He played in five of Burnley' seven victories in the 1888 - 1889 season, scoring in two of those victories. In 1889 Willie McKay left Burnley for Newcastle West End, who were playing in the Northern League. Newcastle West End finished 2nd in the 1889-1890 season. In 1890 Willie McKay left Newcastle West End FC, and England, and returned to Scotland by joining St Bernard's FC. The club had been expelled by the Scottish Football Association and travelled the country as a wanderers team. In 1891 Willie McKay left St. Bernard's FC and moved to Raith Rovers. A club based in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. When he left Raith Rovers and retired is unknown.

G. Owen was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Bolton Wanderers. He played in the inaugural Football League season of 1888–89 and played 7 matches and scored three goals. His debut was on 8 December 1888, at Leamington Road, Blackburn, then home of Blackburn Rovers. Owen replaced Davie Weir at centre-forward, the latter had moved to right-half. Within 8 minutes of the start Wanderers were 2–0 down and then got one back. As the half wore on both sides had chances to score but Wanderers got an equaliser to make it 2–2 at half-time. With the 2nd half under way again both teams could have taken the lead. However, Wanderers did get a grip on the match as they took a 4–2 lead. But Rovers, one of the best teams of 1888–89, came back and made it 4–4 at full-time. Owen's debut goal was scored on 22 December 1888 at Pike's Lane, Bolton, when the visitors were Accrington. The first half was tight and Wanderers' goal, to give them a 1–0 lead, was controversial, as Accrington players claimed the ball had gone over the bar, not under. Accrington equalised early in the second half, but then Wanderers ran away with it with Owen's debut goal completing the scoring at 4–1. Owen's last game of the season was on 5 March 1889. He made 3 appearances at inside left, 3 at outside left and 1 at centre forward. Wanderers finished the season in 5th place. Owen scored 3 goals and assisted Wanderers to score 63 goals in 22 games, the 3rd highest of the season. Owen only played the one season. NOTE: G. Owen did not play in the first ever league game for Bolton Wanderers.
The 1992 Football League Second Division play-off final was an association football match, which was played on 25 May 1992 at Wembley Stadium, London, between Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City. The match was to determine the third and final team to gain promotion from the Football League Second Division, the second tier of English football, to the inaugural season of the Premier League. The top two teams of the 1991–92 Football League Second Division season gained automatic promotion to the Premier League, while the clubs placed from third to sixth place in the table took part in play-off semi-finals; Leicester City had ended the season in fourth position, two places ahead of Blackburn Rovers. The winners of these semi-finals competed for the final place in the Premier League. Derby County and Cambridge United were the losing semi-finalists.
J. Scowcroft was an English footballer who played in The Football League for Bolton Wanderers. He played in the inaugural Football League season of 1888-1889 and played 9 matches and scored one goal. His debut was in the 3rd month of the season, November 1888. The date was 03-Nov-1888, at Anfield, Liverpool, then home of Everton. Scowcroft replaced Bob Roberts at left-half, the latter had moved to left-back. All the action in the match was in the 2nd half, 0–0 at half-time. Everton went 1-0 up but Wanderers equalised. Everton got a winner and, although Wanderers came close they could not get an equaliser. Scowcroft' only goal was scored in an 8-goal thriller played on 08-Dec-1888 at Leamington Road, Blackburn, then home of Blackburn Rovers. Rovers, 2-0 up after 7 minutes lost their clean sheet in the game a minute later, as Scowcroft, playing centre-half, scored his only goal into the Rovers box. Scowcroft played 9 times for Wanderers between 03-Nov-1888 and his last game of the season, 12-Jan-1889. He made 7 appearances at centre-half and 2 at left-half. Wanderers finished the season in 5th place and scored 63 goals in 22 games, the 3rd highest of the season.
