Bindu Kumar Thapa served as a Member of Parliament of Gandaki Province Assembly in the provincial election of 2017 and was also reelected in the same constituency in the provincial election of 2022 as well. He was elected as a member of Gandaki Province Assembly for the second time in the local election held on 2022 Gandaki Province Provincial Assembly. Thapa was elected to the 2017 provincial assembly elections from Kaski 2(A). Mr. Thapa was also the only elected member of provincial assembly from Kaski District representing Nepali Congress in the local election of 2017. He joined Krishna Chandra Nepali cabinet as Minister for Law,Communication and Provincial Assembly Affairs on 23 July 2021.
The 2nd Province No. 1 Provincial Assembly was elected through the provincial elections held on 20 November 2022. The assembly has 56 constituency seats in which members are elected through direct elections and 36 proportional representation party list seats. The term of the assembly is 5 years unless dissolved earlier. The first session of the assembly commenced from 1 January 2023.
