Bidya Bhattarai [2] (also Bidhya Bhattarai) is a Nepali politician and the current Minister of Education,Science and Technology of Nepal. [3] [4] [5] Since 2019,she has been a member of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament of Nepal. She won the by-election of Kaski-2,a constituency that was made empty by the death of her husband,cabinet minister Rabindra Prasad Adhikari,in a helicopter crash in February 2019. She defeated her nearest rival,Khemraj Paudel of Nepali Congress,by a margin of more than 8,000 votes. [6] [7] She was re-elected in 2022 from the same constituency.
The politics of Nepal functions within the framework of a parliamentary republic with a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the Prime Minister and their cabinet,while legislative power is vested in the Parliament.
The Nepali Congress is a social democratic political party in Nepal and become the largest party in the country. The party has 870,106 members as of the party's 14th general convention in December 2021,making it the largest party by membership in Nepal. In June 2023,the party started online membership since the emergence of youth leaders in vital posts to attract youths to the party. The party is led by former prime minister,Sher Bahadur Deuba since the party's thirteenth general convention in 2016. The party won 89 seats in the 2022 general election and is currently the largest parliamentary group in the House of Representatives.

Sher Bahadur Deuba is a Nepali politician and former prime minister of Nepal. He has also been serving as the president of the Nepali Congress since 2016. Deuba has served five terms as prime minister and is the Member of Parliament for the parliamentary constituency of Dadeldhura 1.
Rabindra Prasad Adhikari was a Nepali politician and three-time parliamentarian,belonging to the Nepal Communist Party (NCP). He was Minister of Culture,Tourism and Civil Aviation from 16 March 2018 until his death in a helicopter crash in February 2019. He was the Kaski District secretary of the party. In the 2008 Constituent Assembly election,Adhikari was elected from the Kaski-3 constituency,with 13,386 votes. In the 2013 Constituent Assembly election,he was re-elected from the Kaski-3 constituency,with 15,456 votes. In 2017,CPN-UML candidate Rabindra Adhikari won parliamentary elections from Kaski Constituency No. 2. Representing the left alliance,Adhikari secured 27,207 votes to defeat Nepali Congress candidate Dev Raj Chalise,who got 18,661 votes. After his demise,his wife Bidya Bhattarai won Kaski Constituency-2 with a wide margin of 8,403 votes in the by-election. Bhattarai secured 24,394 votes,while her nearest contender Khem Raj Poudel from the main opposition Nepali Congress got 15,991. Socialist Party's Dharma Raj Gurung got 1,922 votes. He authored the books Constituent Assembly,Democracy and Re-structuring.
The Minister of Culture,Tourism and Civil Aviation is the head of the Ministry of Culture,Tourism and Civil Aviation of the Government of Nepal. One of the senior-most officers in the Federal Cabinet,the minister is responsibility for promoting tourism,culture and private sector involvement in Nepal. A by-election was held in Kaski 2 constituency of Nepal on 30 November 2019,following the death of incumbent Rabindra Prasad Adhikari in a helicopter crash. Adhikari was a 3-term Member of Parliament from Kaski. He was the Minister of Culture,Tourism and Civil Aviation at the time of his death. The by-election was won by Bidya Bhattarai,his widow,with 54.27% of the vote. She defeated her nearest rival,Khem Raj Paudel of Nepali Congress,by 8,403 votes.

General elections were held in Nepal on 20 November 2022 to elect the 275 members of the House of Representatives.
