The Big 12 Conference is a college athletic conference headquartered in Irving, Texas, USA. It consists of ten full-member universities. It is a member of Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for all sports. Its football teams compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision, the higher of two levels of NCAA Division I football competition. The MW officially began operations on January 4, 1999. Craig Thompson has served as Commissioner of the MW since October 15, 1998.

The term "mid-major" was coined in 1977 by Jack Kvancz, the head coach of men's basketball team at Catholic University. Big West Conference Mens Basketball Player of the Year

The Big West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year is an annual basketball award given to the Big West Conference's most outstanding player. The conference was formed in 1969 and known as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association until 1988. The award was first given following the 1969–70 season. No player has won the award three times, but there have been eight two-time players of the year. Larry Johnson of UNLV was also the national player of the year in 1990–91, the same season of his second consecutive Big West Player of the Year accolade.

The Big South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year is an annual college basketball award given to the Big South Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1985–86 season, the first year the league conducted basketball competition.

The Big Sky Conference Player of the Year Award, officially known as the Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player Award, is an annual basketball award given to the Big Sky Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1978–79 season. Only one player, Larry Krystkowiak of Montana, has won the award three times (1984–86). Three others have been two-time winners: Orlando Lightfoot of Idaho and Harold Arceneaux and Damian Lillard of Weber State.
