Bilk are an English indie rock trio formed in Chelmsford, Essex, [1] consisting of Sol Abrahams on vocals and guitar, Luke Hare on bass, and Harry Gray on drums. After debuting in 2018 and going on to release a number of singles and EPs, the band released their self-titled debut album in 2023.
The concept was developed in 2015 by vocalist and guitarist Sol Abrahams, who spent two years working with different musicians. Abrahams took inspiration for the name from his father's job as a London cab driver. [2] Abrahams met Luke Hare through an early gig and invited him to join in 2017 when Bilk's initial bassist quit. They had another drummer before happening upon Harry Gray, forming the current trio. [3]
In an interview, Abrahams said of his string of former Bilk bandmates: [4]
I was doing Bilk with other musicians for a couple years before I even met Luke and Harry. Shit didn't work out with those guys for various reasons. We went through about six different drummers because I could never get along with them and the one bass player I had before Luke fucked off to become a lawyer or something.
I knew Luke because he came to one of my early gigs and I met him briefly after the show. He then later came round for a rehearsal. We both liked Harrington jackets and early Green Day so we got on pretty well. Then it was me, Luke, and this other drummer for a bit but shit went tits up with him so that's where we found Harry.

Bilk officially debuted in 2018 with the singles "Give Up", "Spiked", "Next Weekend", and "Slob". That summer, they played at RiZe Festival. [5]
In 2019, Bilk self-released their debut EP titled Chipped Out. They had gigs at Bearded Theory and Reeperbahn Festival. The single "I Got Knocked Out the Same Night England Did", written during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, was released ahead of the UEFA Euro 2020. [6]
Bilk signed with Scruff of the Neck Records, through which they released their second EP Allow It in 2021. [7] That summer, they played at Louis Tomlinson's inaugural Away From Home Festival, founded to celebrate the return of live music. [8] The following year, they would reunite with Tomlinson as one of the opening acts on the UK leg of his self-titled world tour. They also embarked on their own tour in late 2021 and early 2022. In summer 2022, they played the Great Escape Festival and Reading and Leeds Festivals. [9] They released their third EP Just Don't Work For Me. [10]
In 2023, Bilk released their self-titled debut album, which was recorded on a farm outside Manchester. [11] They went on tour of the UK to celebrate the album's release. They also played SXSW, London Calling, 2000trees, Truck Festival, Tramlines Festival, Y Not Festival, and Reading and Leeds once again. There were further tour dates in late 2023. [12]
Bilk's sophomore album Essex, Drugs and Rock and Roll is set to be released in January 2025 followed their largest tour to date, starting February and traveling around the UK and then Europe. [13]
Bilk have cited the likes of The Jam, Arctic Monkeys, Jamie T, The Streets, the Sex Pistols, Nirvana, and John Cooper Clarke as the band's inspirations. [14] Green Day, Oasis, Slowthai, and Dizzee Rascal were also named as formative influences. [15] Abrahams described their second EP Allow It as combining 90s punk with old school hip-hop. Lyrically, Bilk delve into both personal stories and social commentary. [16] The track "Stand Up" from Bilk explicitly criticises the Conservative government. [2]
Buzzcocks are an English punk rock band that singer-songwriter-guitarist Pete Shelley and singer-songwriter Howard Devoto formed in Manchester in 1976. During their career, the band combined elements of punk rock, power pop, and pop punk. They achieved commercial success with singles that fuse pop craftsmanship with rapid-fire punk energy; these singles were later collected on Singles Going Steady, an acclaimed compilation album music journalist and critic Ned Raggett described as a "punk masterpiece".
Something Corporate is an American rock band from Laguna Niguel, Orange County, California, formed in 1998. Their currently active line-up includes vocalist and pianist Andrew McMahon, guitarists Josh Partington and William Tell, bassist Kevin Page and drummer Brian Ireland.
Eddie and the Hot Rods are a pub rock band from Essex founded in 1975. They are best known for their 1977 UK top ten hit "Do Anything You Wanna Do", released under the shortened name Rods. The group broke up in 1985, but reformed in 1996. Singer Barrie Masters was the only constant member until his death in 2019. The band continued to tour, fronted by their former bassist, Ian 'Dipster' Dean.

The band has won numerous awards, and in Canada their albums have all been certified either gold or platinum.
Arctic Monkeys are an English rock band formed in Sheffield in 2002. The group consists of lead singer Alex Turner, drummer Matt Helders, guitarist Jamie Cook and bassist Nick O'Malley; bassist and co-founder Andy Nicholson left the band in 2006.
U.K. Subs are an English punk rock band, among the earliest in the first wave of British punk. Formed in 1976, the mainstay of the band has been vocalist Charlie Harper, originally a singer in Britain's R&B scene. One of the first hardcore punk bands, elements of rhythm and blues music - including harmonica - also remained an occasional element of their work.
Creeper are an English rock band from Southampton. Formed in 2014, the group originally featured vocalist Will Gould, guitarists Ian Miles and Sina Nemati, bassist Sean Scott, and drummer Dan Bratton. The band independently released their self-titled debut EP in 2014, before signing with Roadrunner Records and issuing follow-up The Callous Heart the next year. At the end of 2015, Nemati was replaced by Oliver Burdett and touring keyboardist/second vocalist Hannah Greenwood became an official band member. A third EP, The Stranger, was released in 2016 and reached the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart top ten.

Mayday Parade is an American rock band from Tallahassee, Florida. Formed in 2005, the band was a result of a merger between two local Tallahassee bands, Kid Named Chicago and Defining Moment. Their debut EP Tales Told by Dead Friends, was released in 2006, and sold over 50,000 copies without any label support. In July 2007, Mayday Parade released their debut album A Lesson in Romantics. Having been signed to Fearless Records since 2006, the band also signed onto a major label with Atlantic Records in 2009. Their second studio album, Anywhere but Here was released in October 2009 and their third album, entitled Mayday Parade, was released in October 2011. Mayday Parade's fourth album, titled Monsters in the Closet, was released in October 2013. Their fifth album, titled Black Lines, was released October 2015. In April 2018, the band signed to Rise Records and released their sixth studio album Sunnyland on June 15, 2018. Their seventh studio album, What It Means to Fall Apart, was released on November 19, 2021.

Formed in 2007, the group consists of lead vocalist, guitarist and pianist John O'Callaghan, lead guitarist Jared Monaco, bass guitarist Garrett Nickelsen, drummer Patrick Kirch, and rhythm guitarist Kennedy Brock. The band is joined by touring member Adam Simons, as of 2018, who plays keys, rhythm and lead guitar as well as percussion.
You Me at Six are an English rock band from Weybridge, Surrey. The band consists of lead singer Josh Franceschi, guitarists Max Helyer and Chris Miller, bassist Matt Barnes and drummer Daniel Flint. Formed in 2004, the name for the group originated as an abbreviation for the group making Friday night plans after a concert. The band has released eight studio albums and one live album.
Peace are an English indie rock band, formed in Worcester. The band currently consists of brothers Harry and Sam Koisser. The band began to receive critical acclaim in early 2012, from publications such as The Guardian and NME, who compared them to The Maccabees, Foals, Wu Lyf and Vampire Weekend. They were considered part of the B-Town movement, along with bands such as Swim Deep, Jaws and Superfood.
Louis William Tomlinson is an English singer and songwriter. He rose to fame as a member of the boy band One Direction. Tomlinson auditioned for British singing competition The X Factor as a solo artist in 2010, but was eliminated. However, he and four other rejected solo contestants would later be placed into a group which would become British-Irish band One Direction, one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.
The Dirty Nil is a Canadian rock band formed in Hamilton, Ontario in 2006, who won the Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2017. The band consists of singer and guitarist Luke Bentham, drummer Kyle Fisher, and bassist Sam Tomlinson.
Boston Manor are a British rock band formed in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, in March 2013. They released a first EP, Here/Now, through Never Mend Records on Bandcamp, and in 2014 they signed with Failure By Design Records for their second EP, Driftwood. In 2015 the band signed with Pure Noise Records: with them, they released another EP, Saudade, as well as their full-length albums Be Nothing (2016), Welcome to the Neighbourhood (2018) and Glue (2020). The band's sound blends emo with heavier influences, reminiscent of '90s grunge and early 2000s post-hardcore. The band have been nominated for Best British Breakthrough at Kerrang! Awards in 2018 and Welcome to the Neighbourhood received a nomination for Best Album Artwork at Heavy Music Awards in 2019.
The Chats are an Australian punk rock band that formed in 2016 in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. They describe their sound as "shed rock". The current band lineup is composed of guitarist Josh Hardy, drummer Matt Boggis, and bassist and vocalist Eamon Sandwith. Known for their songs about Australian culture, they initially went viral for their song "Smoko" and its music video in 2017, and later with "Pub Feed" in 2019. To date they have released two EPs, The Chats (2016) and Get This in Ya!! (2017), and two studio albums High Risk Behaviour (2020) and Get Fucked (2022).
The Snuts are a Scottish indie rock band formed in 2015, originating from West Lothian, Scotland. They have performed across the United Kingdom and Ireland. The band consists of Jack Cochrane, Joe McGillveray (guitar), Callum '29' Wilson (bass) and Jordan 'Joko' Mackay (drums) and was formed when the members were in school.
Sun Room is an American surf band from southern California, currently consisting of members Luke Asgian, Ashton Minnich, Max Pinamonti, and Thomas Rhodes.
Sam Wood is a British musician and songwriter, currently lead guitarist with hard rock bands Black Star Riders and Wayward Sons. After playing in several local bands in the Leeds area, he was asked to form Wayward Sons in 2017 by frontman Toby Jepson, and has since co-written and performed on three charting albums with the band. In November 2022, he joined Black Star Riders.
