Bill Tyson is an Irish writer, producer and documentary maker. [1] As of 2020, he was working with Dublin Community Television and the Irish Mail on Sunday . [1] He previously worked for the Sunday Tribune and the Irish Independent. [2] [3]

Journalism

In 2000 and 2002, while working for the Irish Independent, Tyson won two ESB National Media Awards in the "Business & Finance" category. [4] [3] The 2002 award was for his "hard-hitting pieces relating to personal finances" and "his exposure of over-pricing by financial institutions". [3] He won a further ESB National Media Award in 2004. [5]

In 2007, while working as a business correspondent for the Sunday Tribune, Tyson was shortlisted in the "Specialist Business Reporting" category of the inaugural UCD Smurfit School Business Journalist Awards. [6] In 2008, Tyson resigned from the Tribune "in solidarity with" the then business editor of the Sunday Tribune, who was reputedly sacked following a complaint from an advertiser about an unsigned article. [2]

As of 2013, Tyson was a contributor to the RTÉ TV series "The Consumer Show". [7] Since 2013, he has also been a columnist with the Irish Daily Mail and Irish Mail On Sunday titles.[ citation needed ]

Producer

Tyson produced a short film, "Whatever Turns You On", which won several awards, [1] including Best Short Short at the 2009 Aspen Shortsfest. [8] It was also short-listed for the Best Short Film award at the Boston Irish Film Festival.[ citation needed ] Also in 2009, the short film Veronique was released. It was written and produced by Tyson under the Irish Film Board's Virtual Cinema scheme. [8] [9]

By late 2020, Tyson had a production role on "Romancing Ireland", a six part series on sustainable food production for DCTV. [10] Tyson, who has an MA in screenwriting, [1] also co-wrote and produced a four-hour television series for DCTV, The House. [11] He also produced another documentary for DCTV, titled A Century of Sailing, about the oldest sailing boats in the world still racing. [12]

In 2020, Tyson produced "Nicolas Cruz Hernandez: Still Fighting", an RTÉ Radio 1 documentary about a Cuban who coached Ireland to Olympic boxing success. [13]

Books

Tyson wrote and published a finance book, "Your Money", which was a top ten non-fiction best-seller several times between 1996 and 2004.[ citation needed ]

A biography of Mayoman Admiral William Brown, written by the Argentine author Marcos Aguinis and translated by Bill Tyson, was published in 2006. [14] [15]

John Murray is an Irish journalist and broadcaster. Currently heard on Weekend Sport, he presented The John Murray Show on RTÉ Radio 1, "focus[ing] on lifestyle and entertainment items", filling the slot from 09:00 to 10:00 previously occupied by Ryan Tubridy, who moved to RTÉ 2fm. Murray was one of the presenters of Morning Ireland, Ireland's most popular radio show, before going on to host his own weekly programme, The Business.

Rena Buckley is an Irish sportswoman who played at senior level for both the Cork county ladies' football team and the Cork county camogie team. She has also represented Munster in the Gael Linn Cup and Ireland at international rules. Between 2005 and 2017 she won 18 All-Ireland winners medals, making her one of the most decorated sportspeople in Gaelic games. In 2012 she captained Cork when they won the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship and in 2017 she captained Cork when they won the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. She was the first player to captain Cork to both All-Ireland senior championships. She was also named as an All Star on eleven occasions. In 2015 Buckley and her team mate and fellow dual player, Briege Corkery, were named joint winners of the 2015 The Irish Times/ Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year Award.

The Football Association of Ireland Women's Cup is the senior cup competition for women's association football in the Republic of Ireland. It is commonly known as the Women's FAI Cup, the WFAI Cup, or prior to 2001, the Ladies FAI Cup or the LFAI Cup. Organised by the Women's Football Association of Ireland, like the Women's National League, the Cup is currently sponsored by EVOKE.ie and is known as the EVOKE.ie FAI Women's Cup. The Women's Irish Hockey League is a field hockey league organised by Hockey Ireland that features women's teams from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The league was first played for during the 2008–09 season. It replaced the All-Ireland Club Championships as the top level women's field hockey competition in Ireland. Since 2015–16 the league has been sponsored by Ernst & Young and, as a result, it is also known as the EY Hockey League. The league has previously been sponsored by the ESB Group and Electric Ireland.

Kathryn "Katie" Mullan is an Ireland women's field hockey international player from Coleraine, Northern Ireland. She was captain of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Mullan has also won Irish Senior Cup and Women's Irish Hockey League titles with UCD. Mullan has also played camogie for CLG Eoghan Rua and helped them win the 2010 All-Ireland Intermediate Club Camogie championship.

Chloe Watkins is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Watkins made her 200th senior international appearance for Ireland in the World Cup final. In addition to playing for UCD and Hermes-Monkstown in the Women's Irish Hockey League, Watkins has also played for Club de Campo in Spain and for HC Bloemendaal in the Netherlands. She has won league titles while playing in Ireland and Spain. She has also won senior cup competitions while playing in Ireland, Spain and the Netherlands.

Hannah Matthews is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Matthews has also won Irish Senior Cup and Women's Irish Hockey League titles with Loreto. She is the daughter of Phillip Matthews, the former Ireland rugby union international.

Deirdre Duke is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Duke has also won Irish Senior Cup and Women's Irish Hockey League titles with UCD. She has also captained the UCD team. Duke also won an All-Ireland Under-14 Ladies' Football Championship with Dublin and represented the Republic of Ireland women's national under-17 football team.

Hermes Ladies' Hockey Club was a women's field hockey club based at St. Andrew's College in Booterstown, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. The club entered teams in the Women's Irish Hockey League, the Irish Senior Cup and the Irish Junior Cup. In 2016 Hermes merged with the women's team at Monkstown Hockey Club and subsequently played as Hermes-Monkstown. As Hermes-Monkstown, the club represented Ireland in the 2017 EuroHockey Club Champions Cup.

Loreto Hockey Club is a women's field hockey club based in Rathfarnham, Dublin 14, Ireland. The club enter teams in the Women's Irish Hockey League, the Irish Senior Cup and the Irish Junior Cup. Loreto has also represented Ireland in European competitions, winning the 2011 EuroHockey Club Champion's Challenge II and finishing third at the 2014 European Club Championship Trophy.
